The front porch

Because we aren't spending any money to be here, we are spending money for the gun. This is a business, and needs to be run as one. There are a lot of posts that get taken down and removed (including my own) because they need to keep a reputable name. Allowing any sort of posting will increase the work load for the moderators. If you really want to talk about politics and so forth, join a different forum. This is a tractor forum.

1. We are spending money in response to advertising and this site makes money on it and us. 2. Then don't have a front porch. Sorry, now I,m done. I could not resist.

1. I don't know about anyone else, but I've spent $0 on TBN. We are not spending money, advertising agencies are.

2. I'd rather that than one that constantly bashes and demeans everything in its path. I prefer it just the way it is.

You keep talking about your rights. You have no rights here, (except those they allow you to have)
They can kick me and anyone else off for any reason. I don't feel that they would. But they can. They own it.

Ok... I have been away for awhile.... But I think this is a thread for me to comment on....

You see the Front Porch was created as a forum for members to have to discuss everything and everything...Tractors or not...
Kinda like the Front Porch at any country home....
And I was not only part of the charter group of members, but also the one that started the longest running sitting, sipping, and chatting thread that many know as the chronicles!

But let's step back for more history.....
A few years ago when TBN was on the run up to 2 million posts there was a contest to see who would guess when we would hit the 2 million posts mark.....
Well as a tongue in cheek kinda fun and games 3 of us chatted up all over the forum... You might see comments on 10 different threads that when combined made a conversation that was hilarious to those that kept up...
There was a contest and a few prizes for winning or placing your guess as to when we would hit the 2 million post mark....

During this time The Chronicles became very very busy... ( Today aug 6 2012 it has over 7500 replies!!!)


Well someone complained that the Chronicles was wasting time and effort and always on top of the new posts page...
So the Front Porch was born....

Now I can't be sure, but I believe the common trait of those that were the most vocal were new users with low post counts....
So the post limit was set fairly high... And if I remember right it was set to be the lowest count of the users that participated in the Front Porch type conversations.... So all those got in....

After several threads such as this one, the post count was reduced, and other mandates were removed... (at one time you had to be a member for a period of time and have x number of posts)

Later on, the friendly politics forum was built.... And that forum requires a direct request to Muhammad..

Neither the Front Porch nor the friendly politics were ever meant to be an elitist club as has been claimed to be by several users....

They were just a place used to share non tractor topics without detracting from the rest of the tractor basis of the forum....

I do hope that puts all this to rest......

I don't necessarily want or not want a front porch, but this site has one. Again, if you know going into the front porch what the content might be, then why the restrictions. If I said on here you can't buy a gun for a day waiting period, guys would go nuts and rightly so. Why are so many not willing question this policy.

Maybe it's because we (me included) like the policy just the way it is. As has been stated this is a free site that you are able to join and enjoy because of the hard work of some very dedicated, hard working owners and moderators. :applause: :applause: Their site, their rules. I appreciate TBN for keeping it clean, fun and apolitical.

As far as why the posters have a higher count, look at the membership list arranged by posts. There are 4929 pages with 30 members per page. Page 1 and 2 are the supermembers with more than 5000 posts. I am on page 41 with 424 posts. You are on page 202 with 49. Those with 1 or 0 posts starts at page 1417 and goes to page 4929. I would say the majority of the responses to any thread are from members with a high post count. Many people view the threads without posting.

I don't see it as censorship. If someone doesn't want to be censored then they can start their own paper, radio show, tv station, blog, yell on the street corner or whatever else they want to do. Knock yourself out. This forum operator has set their standards for all, equally enforced.

I would like to add I find it strange that I have zero views of this post and the only responses are from super members. Could be just a fluke, but does seem strange.

When kids misbehave in public, their fathers usually step in and try to teach them a lesson in life. The super members are like the elders of TBN, trying to help you understand how things work. Which begs the question.... (I have to say it)....
