The Great Grease Gun Coupler Showdown

Thanks for the report and bringing another option to our attention, ovrszd. The LockNLube has worked great for me. Your comment #2 about having your fingers closer to the fitting to release the coupler is (for me) an advantage for the LnL. The LnL easily accesses all my DK35 and implement fittings. However, the LnL will not work for the Kioti CK series loader fittings. The Univerco couple will solve that and is likely the better couple for CK owners.

I find the pistol grip gun with a hose works fine for me, including all the fittings on my DK35. I suspect the problem fittings k0ua refers to in post #15 of this thread are the brake pedal linkages. The hose and LnL works for those since you just need to get the coupling on without concern for how the gun is aligned. The other place I really appreciate the locking coupler is on the Farm King finishing mower's four small wheels (10" ?). They were a pain to try to hold steady (with mower raised) while greasing.

Thanks again for the report.

I lubed approximately 40 Zerks today with the Univer-Co. I love the compactness. I hate that I have to put my fingers "near" the possible grease to unlock. I love that it is normally in the unlock position. So finger involvement is only in the release function. I hate that it appears to be hard to release from a resistant Zerk. Push the coupler harder onto the Zerk and then it releases easily. I didn't experience a Zerk that will not take grease. I don't tolerate that. I love it's apparent durability. Seems to be very well built. The way it locks/unlocks seems to be fail proof. As of today, I'll continue to use it for awhile and see where my attitude goes. Because I use a rechargeable or a pistol grip gun I don't see as much value to having a locking coupler. Glad I bought one and compared it directly to the LnL. Also glad I bought the LnL to experiment with a locking coupler. For those that struggle to see the value in spending $40 on something like this, let me look at your expenses and I'll find something we can all have a great laugh about. :) Long term reports to be announced. )

Thanks for the report.

Were you able to get the pedal linkages fittings with the LnL?.. I tried a couple of times and could not seem to get it lined up.. So I built the right angle adapter to get those two. It works great.. Of course those are just every 50 hours.. so no big deal. The LnL works great for every other fitting on the tractor and loader.. Perhaps I just didn't try hard enough on the those pedal linkage fittings. I will re visit that if you tell me you had success. I have a pistol grip gun with a 18 inch whip hose.

Glad to hear the Univerco is matching my experiences for you.

Part of the "high" cost is these things are relatively specialized items made by small companies. Univerco for example is a specialized tractor implement / veg processing equipment maker in Quebec. They dont even mention the grease couplers on their website! Special Projects - Univerco Made in Canada vs. China means something too.

When you think in the case of the Univerco, its basically a hydraulic coupling. Mass produced in the millions, hydraulic couplings are still $10+. The fact that this company (and LnL) can make such relatively small quantities in small shops yet still sell them for only $30 is impressive. The cost of the item isnt outrageous, its up to the user to determine if its value for money however. IMHO its money well spent (so far)

Jason, I totally agree.

If this tool is something a person needs or if it can improve their productivity, the cost is very acceptable.

If the criterion for embarrassing purchases that are laughable, most of us would be :laughing:

It looks like an extension could be made for this new coupler to make it even easier and less messy to release. I'm thinking of a thin closed end tube the would fit over the coupler, with a hole drilled in the closed end just large enough to allow the business end of the coupler to slide though and seat the rim (release handle) of the coupler on the inside bottom of the closed end tube (that was drilled). It could extend up towards the gun a couple more inches, and have that end flared so you could grab it easier. That could be slid over the coupler as needed for a cleaner better grip, and also removed when not needed.

I had never seen the universal coupler before this thread, Thanks for the information,

I do have the lock and lub, on one gun, and on the stubrun zerks it has worked for most, (see last paragraph) I also got a zerk rejuniver,

I probably have a dozen or more guns on the farm (all hand most the lever type) I have the standard lever type with flex tube and standard couplers, on the tractors, and combine, but have recently bought a lock and lube and have it on one gun on the service truck, and I also have a pistol grip and about a 18" solid tube on it for greasing the press wheels on the grain drill, there are 32 of them I line them up and just go down the row with the pistol grip gun, that is what that gun is used for 90% of the time, I have a mini gun, in the shop, and have a grease gun with solid tub on the or for, the mortar mixer and cement mixer,
there should be one in the 6x6 truck,

one of the other items I have recently bought was a zerk rejuniver, I had one yeas ago but never got it to work (I was loading it with grease), the one I bought recommended to use a light oil or diesel fuel, it opened up two zerks that were hard to remove and get out on the old drills, using the light oil I think is the trick, Amazon.com: IPA 7862H Grease Joint Rejuvenator: Automotive there are many brand of them,

Very odd, ive had the LNL for over a year now on a flexable hose. No issues. No mess. Easy to use for this 2 armed human.

What am i doing wrong😜

Here is a photo of the most difficult fitting, James:

The loader mount blocks the fitting but the flexible hose and LnL make it fairly easy.

Aha, you came in the back door! I tried to come in the side. My adapter makes it quick though for those two. Why didn't they just put right angle zerks on in the first place?
Those are the only two on the whole tractor that are difficult.
