Well, this past weekend I was tractor'n and my favorite 6' slip chain and nylon axle strap (a story of it's own) fell off their normal resting place on the floor by my left foot, hopefully to be found another day, probably by my rotary mower! Not the best place to keep your chains, but all I had. That was the last straw! Now I had to rig up a storage box somewhere! Been watching all the threads on the subject and none really fit my situation. So, I got home, looked at the situation, and rigged up the below solution. Hope it gives someone else some inspiration.
First, the only real open space on the B2910 seemed to be between the body and the FEL arm (see photo 1).
The arrow points to a support bar for the FEL frame. I reasoned that it would be a good place to mount a toolbox. So I emptied an ammo box that looked like the right size and it seemed like the right answer. So I cut some angle iron and tack welded them diagonally across the bottom of the box. I added the two "feet" to the opposite corners so I could sit the box down without it falling over.
The two diagonials fit nicely over the FEL support brace and supported the ammo box just fine. You can see from the front view that it fits nicely between the tractor body and the FEL.
The next shot shows the box from the side view.
The box had to be easily removed for engine maintenance, so I drilled a 3/8 hole through the two angle pieces and through the FEL brace. Then I used a military type 3/8" quick release clevis pin. I simply push the button, pull the pin, lift the box up, then sit it on the ground.
Works great! Now, finish the welds, a little sand blasting, and a rattle can of KOrange paint and I'm in business! Think I'll do it to the other side too!
Now for the sad part. It took me about an hour to do the tool box thing. It took me about 4 hours to do this post! After 25 years foolin with computers, I still don't know nothin! One last note, sorry for the size of this post. I tried the photos smaller but they needed to be bigger for the resolution. My appologies to those with slow modems!
