Well, this past weekend I was tractor'n and my favorite 6' slip chain and nylon axle strap (a story of it's own) fell off their normal resting place on the floor by my left foot, hopefully to be found another day, probably by my rotary mower! Not the best place to keep your chains, but all I had. That was the last straw! Now I had to rig up a storage box somewhere! Been watching all the threads on the subject and none really fit my situation. So, I got home, looked at the situation, and rigged up the below solution. Hope it gives someone else some inspiration.

First, the only real open space on the B2910 seemed to be between the body and the FEL arm (see photo 1).

The arrow points to a support bar for the FEL frame. I reasoned that it would be a good place to mount a toolbox. So I emptied an ammo box that looked like the right size and it seemed like the right answer. So I cut some angle iron and tack welded them diagonally across the bottom of the box. I added the two "feet" to the opposite corners so I could sit the box down without it falling over.

The two diagonials fit nicely over the FEL support brace and supported the ammo box just fine. You can see from the front view that it fits nicely between the tractor body and the FEL.

The next shot shows the box from the side view.

The box had to be easily removed for engine maintenance, so I drilled a 3/8 hole through the two angle pieces and through the FEL brace. Then I used a military type 3/8" quick release clevis pin. I simply push the button, pull the pin, lift the box up, then sit it on the ground.

Works great! Now, finish the welds, a little sand blasting, and a rattle can of KOrange paint and I'm in business! Think I'll do it to the other side too!

Now for the sad part. It took me about an hour to do the tool box thing. It took me about 4 hours to do this post! After 25 years foolin with computers, I still don't know nothin! One last note, sorry for the size of this post. I tried the photos smaller but they needed to be bigger for the resolution. My appologies to those with slow modems!

Larry,

I LOVE your storage box rig. Makes you think the manufacturers would come with something like that, or maybe several different size options.

Your photos are real good, terrific. Only thing is ... when you get around to it, PAINT THE BOX ORANGE!!!

Thanks Bob! The olive drab shows the lineage of the box which isn't too hard to figure out anyway. But, I agree with you, it will be orange before the weekend is over!

Larry -

Superb tinkerin'!!! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Really, that's a very nice job!

The only problem is that you're messing with my head! /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif At the top of my wish list at the moment is a tip 'n' tilt setup, followed closely by a welding rig (and lessons, of course). But what I really need next is a sprayer unit, and all the while my budget says, "how about another pair of socks?" /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

You've increased my desire for welding to the point that I'm not sure what I'm saving up for now. I guess I'll just have to live vicariously through your pictures for now (which ain't bad, by the way).

One minor note -- some browsers can't handle space characters in file names 'n' such, so if you want to be sure everyone gets to see your picts, you might want to change names like "box with angle.jpg" to "BoxWithAngle.jpg" or something. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Larry,
Great looking compact setup, and plus your able to see the bucket low to the ground.
Sure hope you find the strap an chain before the mower.

Larry, that looks great! You may have solved my storage problem on my B21. I will be taking a look when I get to the mountain house later today. Now, like Harv, I need that welder. What do you think for a begining welder? Some say Mig and others AC/DC.

Darn it, LarryT, now you're making more work for me; I need to do that to my B2710.

Larry,

Really clean installation/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Maybe the exhaust will keep the box and tools warm and help with condensation.
Took me a while to figure out why the short angle in the front left hand corner, way to slow to have lived to a ripe old age in the old west.

Do you ship UPS ground, and how long after receipt of order do you ship?/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Larry, I'm one of the ones that Harv was thinking of that would have problems with your link /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif. I'm using Netscape 4.08.
Rather than using the image tags, why not use the url tags. That way I won't have to wait /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif for the pictures to download everytime there is an update to the thread... I know its nice to be able to read and see the picture at the same time, but I just open the phote link in a new browser window.
