How about just a safety net down below? ;)

Trust me, if it were up to me I would leave the "Infinity" deck look. My wife seems to have a different opinion:laughing:

I happened to walk past a `wire` guarding today , along a river, and it was quite interesting how your eye doesn`t focus on the wire, but more on a distant object...The strands were quite close together, maybe five inches, and it really didn`t make any difference.....I know it sure doesn`t look rustic, but it did do what you are thinking about. I personally liked your `branch` look, and think you would be pleased with the look...Tony

Saturday my wife and I went to Lowes and looked at high tensile wire. They had some 1/4" galvanized stranded wire covered with clear vinyl. The wire was $95 for 250 ft. The hardware required to attach both ends of one cable was $11.50. We are probably going to go for this solution when we finish our back porch and deck. The prospect really makes me happy. I was dreading obstructing our view with normal porch railing.

Buddy of mine built a large deck on his camper at the lake. He ran 1/2 inch galvanized conduit horizontally between the uprights instead of spindles or railing boards. It looks neat, doesn't obstruct the view, and wasn't super expensive.

Obed, check out Tractor Supply first, I think you will fine the wire cheaper there. They have the stranded cased wire, but also look at the slick galvanized 1/4" or 1/8" wire(not in plastic sheathing). That stuff is very strong and you won't have to worry about the sheathing discoloring/cracking over time. I use the same wire except in aluminium for my elec horse fence...Alum because it breaks easily when a cow or horse gets tangled up in it. Galvanized won't break very easily at all, but it can because it is not stranded, just one heavy wire.

Bill, yes, EMT painted black would be real cheap(.50 cents a baluster).........hmmm, options, options:thumbsup:

:DStand-by....we decided to sell some real estate(no, none of our farm land) to fund the log house. I will be ordering the big gable glass and the rest of the 8" stove pipe for the wood stove this week. $ will get things moving again:thumbsup:

Weather permitting(we have had a lot of rain) I will be skidding logs and milling the rafters and purlins for the front and back porches.
