We were supposed to hang the glass last Sat, but one of the guys had to work. We re-scheduled for today @3PM.

In the mean time I have all the inside stops installed, and the outside one's ready. I spent a day skidding out the rest of the cedar logs off the ridge and moved them all to the mill(24 logs 16' or longer). A day on the mill and I am about half way through the pile cutting 6x6' and 3x6' beams and rafters for the two 44x10' porch structures.

I ordered 4 Hunter Original 52" ceiling fans, black body/walnut blades....these are the cast iron one's that were designed by Hunter around the turn of the century. If you ever stood under one of these fans you immediately notice how much air they move and how quiet they are. These big heavy fans have been used in all my homes and if kept oiled once a year last a lifetime. I emailed 5-6 different places and got the best price shipped to the door: $279 ea. This is going to be our only "air conditioning system" so I'm ok with the money spent.

I put in the top and bottom outside stops, and will go back tomorrow to cut and fit the side stops. It was real tight but all in all it went well. I saved $500 by doing this myself instead of having the glass company do it.............

Yes, other than the settling gap above the windows and doors. I'm trimming those out now & stuffing some foam in the gap before sealing them up.

Then it's on to the porches.............the weather has been great:thumbsup:

M7, I'll bet you're breathing a little easier now. I'm glad it's working out well for you. I'm guessing it will be well worth all the work and effort to get it done.

When you get a chance, can you take a few pictures from inside to make us jealous?

As I've said before, the projects like yours and others on this site help me expand my vision of what is possible to do. I'm fortunate enough to have some construction proficiency and skills, but nothing compared to some of you. But by following along on your project, it gives me enough inspiration to take on tasks that I might otherwise have thought were out of my skill level.

So congratulations, and thanks again for letting us follow your journey.

Thanks and same here GB, I researched and read for years. Seeing what others accomplish helped me decide which parts of my house to tackle myself. Occasionally us doityiourself-ers stumble and make mistakes{me}, but generally even after a mistake you are still ahead of the game from hiring it out. For example: the glass company wanted $600 to install. I hired my neighbors construction crew for two hours - 3 guys @ $15 and hr, so a hundred bucks. I bought two used 8" professional glass suction cups on ebay for $50. If the glass company made a mistake and broke one they would cover it. If I made a mistake and broke one(they averaged $400 a panel), I could buy another one and still be close to the same "installed" price. So to me the risk was worth the gamble. Plus, I keep learning things as I go and that makes it interesting.

M7 I have been following your thread from the beginning and wow you never seize to amaze me!!!!! You and your wife have a beautiful home to be proud of. I think you need to teach classes in building and attention to detail. Thanks for taking the time to share your house with us.
