The New F150

HEY WAIT A MINUTE!!!! I have an F-150 with a color matched hard torneau cover. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

It is very functional, since I carry my tandem bicycle in it much more easily that I could in an SUV. In an SUV I would need to take the second & third rows of seats out, but then my bike wouldn't have the security of being concealed from the view of would be thieves. The bike is eight feet long but weighs less than thirty pounds, so buying an heavy duty truck would be silly, as if a $7000 bicycle isn't silly enough. The cover also lets me go to the dump on Saturday morning, then follow around the misses shopping all day with the security of locking up the packages after each store. I also have a V6 & 5sp, since I don't really have desire to tow anything other than the occassional equipment rental like a stump grinder. The truly best part was this truck only cost me $14,000 new with XLT trim and alloy wheels back in 97. Much cheaper than the big boy trucks and the SUVs.

Oh yeah, I remember when we lived in Texas one of my wife's macho male co-workers called it pretty boy truck when she described my new truck, well that is until he met me, when he was assured there ain't nothing pretty about me. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

BTW, my truck was built in Canada.

I've got to agree with Bigpete, what are you so angry about? My son has my old Toyota now, I don't consider him a yuppie or on an ego trip. The same with Bird, Bigdave and several other members who have an F150. Some people simply do not need a big one ton truck, yet the 1/2 tons are work trucks used to deliver bulky items that won't fit in a passenger car or a van. Some people use them to haul firewood, have a lawn service, tow their camper or boat and several other uses. I have big trucks, American made Chevys, a 1964 and a 1965, both one ton dumps, but I don't look down my nose at owners of smaller trucks. I would seriously consider the F150 if I didn't need a bigger truck.

No that was a 2002. After the whole deal I wound up getting the 2003. That was not a very good experience at all. The dealer had alot to do with that.

( F150's, Chevy 1/2 ton's and Dodge Ram 1500's are trucks for the yuppie crowd to take to the grocery store. )

Its obvious you do not know everyone that has a 1/2 ton truck, nor have you seen every 1/2 ton truck in use.

Wow this is the first time I have read this thread and I don't get it /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif How do a bunch of predomanantly Japanese tractor owners bash a Japanese truck, again /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif As far as who is best, to each his own. I think if we let resale value be a determining factor Toyota smokes everybody. With all the incentives the domestic mfgrs. are giving they aren't doing any good for the resale of trucks purchased three short years ago. This I sadly found out when I traded my 00 Silverado in that only had 32000 miles, LS 4x4 paid 29,000 got 14000. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Fellas let's behave and try not to get out of hand. There is simply no reason for knocking others choices. It is wrong to belittle someone or stick them in a category over what the drive. We should respect others choices as we would want them to respect ours.

The bottomline is that Toyotas AND 1/2 ton trucks are BOTH for "girlie" men! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Release the real man inside of you that is waiting to be reborn, buy a big stinkin' American dieslel 1 ton! You will feel a change the instant you sit in that baby, hear the engine roar to life and start eating diesel fumes...aaaah.

I think all these trucks are good trucks there just not for me. It's nice we have all these choices. They all serve a particular purpose as does my truck.

Daryl, Youre not sore because those F-150's pass you on the road, cost less and get better fuel economy than your "REAL MAN" truck are you ? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I guess some of us forgot this was a strand about F-150's. My 2500 Duramax has a tonnaeu cover thats painted with a chrome ball and all. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif But you wont be pullin that around now will ya ? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Dave

Daryl,

I'm hoping your post was somewhat tongue in cheek, but the lack of smiling faces suggests otherwise.

My truck--short bed with extended cab (small seat in back). Why does this work for me--becasue I need to take my crew with me and my tools fit in the back. When I'm installing a new job, I pull a dual axle trailer.

Don't fool yourself about the bigger trucks--I see a fair amount of 3/4 and 1 ton diesels being driven by people you would term yuppies /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif The 1/2 trucks don't have the market cornered there.

So--you saying the 1/2 ton truck owners don't do any serious work may be true of some people, but not all. I've got a few guys on my crew that, after a 16 hour day, would tend to disagree with you /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Now I'm guilty of taking my own thread even more off course. Sorry about that.

Bob
