Quote: Engineered to hold up to 800 lb of concrete, sand, or steel,..........

Yes, I bet it is engineered to hold up to 800 lb of Styrofoam too!

“Engineered to hold up to 800 lb of concrete, sand, or steel, “

One could interpret that as meaning it will hold that much of each product up to 800 lbs. Instead of holding up to 800 lbs of something if it fits.

I dont see it that way at all. Everything I own that has a max load capacity says it is engineered to hold X pounds...why would a claim based on weight it can hold imply that its dimensions could hold anything that weighs that much. Steel might be in the form of steel wool which would never fit in the box but that doesnt negate their claim that the box was engineered to be able to hold 800 pounds of steel. Its slightly ambiguous wording, at best.

I think the OP issue was the description list “sand” and its not big enough to hold 800 lbs of sand. Sort of a somewhat costly lesson learned that perhaps a person should calculate the dimensions and weights of the preferred material and do the math. Nice to for others to learn from that mistake.

I would think that it would be common sense that, depending on type, size, shape, of sand/rocks/steel, you would get a variety of weights. Unlike this poly lawn roller that specifies when filled with water, it will weigh 400lbs.

If you have a 800 ballast box it is capable of up to 800 pounds, does not mean it has to hold 800 pounds.. It read it as MAX capacity (fill material dependent) ...

Its like you have 3/4 ton pickup, do you always load it to exactly 3/4 ton....

Its sort of like my tandem axle car carrier is rated at 7000 lbs gross, and subtract its tare weight of 1460 lbs it has load capacity of 5540 lbs , do I have to find load of exactly 5540 lb or can I load it with less.... Or if I choose to violate manufactures specs and I actual put more than 5540 lbs load and violate 7000 gross weight limit?...

If this is the ad:

Most steel weighs about 480 lbs/cubic foot.
I have no idea what etc. weighs.
Would you have complained if it broke when you put 5.3 cubic foot of steel in it? (about 2,544 lbs).
I read that ad as like a trailer ad - My trailer has a 12K capacity.
You'll note that it doesn't say that all of that weight will be *in* the box, you could fill it with concrete part or all the way and then have more stuff on top - just don't exceed 800# (presumably the strength of the bottom and/or connection points).

HEY YOU ALL!!

this is his second thread, about this titan ballast box...

his first was complaining the sand leaked out box door. i'm pretty sure he deleted it because i cant find it. in it he insisted on sand so that he could travel with the box in his pickup or a moving van........ wtf?!?!? right? and so on i hope someone can link it.

*edit, or a 'tard. he also claimed to be a lawyer in the last thread.

Well the picture above does say it holds up to 800 pounds of sand, concrete or steel. So it is a little misleading. If it said 800 lbs then fine, but it does sort of indicate it would hold 800 lbs of concrete or sand and it seems the volume is to low to do so. A bit of poor wording in the description.

Exactly, and this thread may help other people who are under the impression they can get 800 pounds of concrete into the box.

Kind of amazed that a person who calls people "tard" would accuse me of trolling. Accusing me of deleting threads is also a little weird. I don't even know if I can do that. The thread pops up instantly, if you take the time to search.

This is usually a very friendly forum. Don't know what happened here. I don't respond in kind, so don't worry about me starting flame wars.

I never complained about sand leaking out. Second time I have had to explain this, but I guess I can explain it as many times as necessary. Before filling the box, I asked people about ways to prevent it from leaking out. In case anyone wonders about that, a garbage bag between the door and the sand will do it.

Repeating myself yet again, the ad isn't the only problem. People who own the box have claimed they got 800 pounds of concrete into it. That's likely to deceive new buyers (it fooled me), so I felt it was a good idea to let people know the truth. If a 690-pound ballast will work for you, and you don't mind gouged and scraped powder coating, this box will work. In retrospect, I think I should have made a concrete ballast from scratch, as other people have done. The cost is much lower.

Hope this helps people.

Because people are making the same remarks over and over, as if they had not read what I said earlier. Unless you're referring to my quoting the word "tard."
