I noticed FDR passed on this date. He and Churchill pretty much ignored and avoided Truman. i've read that they really didn't like him much. Truman was a tea drinking straight shooter while the other 2 were full time hard core drinker/smokers.

So........... FDR drops dead , they call in Truman and say, you are now the president, press this Button!

On this day in 2005, Don Blasingame professional baseball player from 1955-1966 passed away at the age of 73. He spent several years of playing with the St. Louis Cardinals. He was before my time listening to the game but I recall my grandpa talking about him.
On this day in 2013, American actor Frank Bank passed away at the ago of 71. many of us grew up seeing him on Leave it to Beaver. He played Clarence "Lumpy" Rutherford.

I listened to many radio shows when I was young because my parents had the radio on. Some of the sports announcers were so good that I could close my eyes and picture what was happening almost like watching TV. I always thought that this was good training for imagination and imagination can lead to creation and invention and should be encouraged.

Absolutely! I was 13 years before I ever saw a TV; it was from outside, too...it was in a bar and I couldn't go in. It just so happens, Hoppalong Cassidy was on!

Radio was indeed our escape; I can still visualize the Lone Ranger, the Inner Sanctum, Life with Luigi, The Buster Brown Gang, Duffy's Tavern and Henry Aldrich. Like they say, it was like watching a picture show on the back of your eyelids.

For anyone who has wandered around a city and marveled at the buildings, Louis Sullivan was the first to coin the phrase, form follows function. Buildings became much taller and more modern.
On this day in 1965, convicted murderers Perry Smith and Robert Hickok were hanged in the Kansas State Prison. Both were convicted of the murders made famous by Truman Capote. The 1966 non-fiction novel was called "In cold Blood".
On this day, formerly famous financier, Bernie Madoff died in prison at the age of 82. He was responsible for one of the largest investment fraud cases ever found. He defrauded more than 37,000 people in 136 countries over a period of decades.
