Junkman.. I hope you know my humor was light hearted.. thinking you were pulling our leg.

"Until then, I am just going to sit back and see what they have in mind."

I'd talk to a lawyer to discuss your current situation and plan of attack. Bring him/her w/ you to the meeting.. the local government has already been planning what they intend to do w/ your property.. you are behind already.

Junkman, if this is one of your jokes, it isn't funny.

I am in the middle of this kind of mess at the moment. Our little town is in the middle of the process to change their classification to a Home Rule Municipality in order to annex surrounding property. Unfortunately, one of the properties they want to annex is my M-I-L's farm. The thing is that they gerrymandered their population figures in order to reach the 5000 people necessary to qualify for Home Rule status. I've pointed this out to them several times but they just don't want to know because it doesn't fit in with their "vision" for the city. It's going to cost me a heap of bucks to fight it further and sadly, I'll probably lose because case law is very firmly on the side of the city and the council. Basically, in Texas, they can do pretty much whatever they want and there isn't a whole lot the individual can do about it.

If it's true, you have my condolences. If it's not, knock it off ... your touching a raw nerve.

Hey Junkman, If this is true and not a joke, I have a suggestion for you. That is if you own a nice hunk of land. Go out and buy some pigs, sheep and cows. Start a farm and they can't touch you.

This country was founded with a definite bias towards individulal rights. That's what makes the recent Supreme Court ruling so surprising. It also scares the heck out of me. It smells of the rich and powerful vs. the rest of us and that is not the America I grew up believing in. I wish you the best of luck and you can count on our support if there is anything that we can do to help you, but I fear it's a stacked deck.

" The rights of the money outweigh the rights of the one, or the many"

According to a news report that I came across, WalMart and Target are two of the companies that have managed to use eminent domain to acquire property to build on. The article said that in some cases it is about the only way the "Big Box" stores can get a big enough piece of land for their purposes, particularly in the urban Northeast. It went on to say that Target had been the most aggressive of the two.

Since I read that, I have managed to stay out of Target, and don't go into WalMart if I can help it.
