Mine is all 3/8” hose and my EA Wicked Grapple for Utility Tractors is single lid / single cylinder Bill.

The WR Long on my 100HP New Holland has 1/2” feed but rest of hose, including my 84” HD grapple is 3/8” which was my decision.

Both grapples open / close very smoothly.

Rick, Then I will go with 3/8" then will order monday, I am listening to you this time. I moved some branches and stumps tonite as soon area will be to wet to work. I tied the lids back in the open position. I will be so much better when I have hydraulic's plumbed to the lids. Bill

I saw your pics on the other Grapple thread and the opening is amazing.

Rick, I didn't think it was appropriate to post my grapple on the The WICKED Root & Debris GRAPPLE site.

Yes, As I recall they state the opening to be 46", I measured mine and it's 46 1/2 inches. Opening size was one of the factors I chose it. We have had 7.33 inches of rain to date so I won't be using it much till the ground drys out. My R1 tires are tough on the moist soil tears it up if I am not careful.

Well today I ordered a grapple and valve kit. I purchased them thru Travis at everything attachments. He was patient and answered my questions as well as very helpful. I look forward to getting this and putting it to work.

I went with the 50” L shape grapple it kept the weight down, and I think will work best with my needs. Here is a link.

It was a pleasure chatting and getting the perfect grapple lined up for you, Laderbuilt!
50" Single Lid Wicked Grapple

She's a sharp fanged beauty!
I know I've shared them before, but these pics of the Wicked 50 on my Father in law's Kubota L3301 were taken by yours truly!

Travis... Quit teasing me. I have one just like that on order and It shipped ahead of schedule on Monday of this week. Thank you! EA did a fine job with my order so far. It was shipping to Atlanta from Hickory, NC. On Tuesday the tracking info said it got to the hub where I want to pick it up, but Fed-Ex apparently forgot to take it off the truck... Now it's in Arkansas...! It's like waiting for Christmas.

We’ll give a holler when it passes thru Texas!

Why doesn't anyone that makes a single lid, make the lid go all the way across the top instead of in the middle of the bottom part. To go all the way across, you have to get double lid.

Rake grapples do.

IMO, a full top lid on a long bottom grapple would be more limiting.

I think a full top lid would actually result in a less efficient grip and cause way more load shifts due to uneven logs, rocks, stumps, etc.

I always welcome more insight, though!

And a lid gets in the way for some jobs such as getting under root balls and prying up saplings. The lid hits the trunk of the tree and prevents the bottom from getting as far under as you would like to. We use the corners of the bottom where there is no lid to get up close and personal with the roots.

After owning a wide clamshell style, I think the reason is the double lid works better than a wide single lid.

I have never experienced anything negative with the open gap between the double lids in seven years of using a 6' wide L bottom grapple. The gap works good to straddle a tree trunk when pushing brush up against it, then closing them on a full grapple.

Turns out Fedex had my grapple all along. Their tracking info was hosed... I went and got my new 50" Wicked Grapple this morning! I'm still waiting, though... WR Long hasn't built my Quick Attach Adapter yet. This gives me some time to get my hoses sorted out. The teeth on that lid are pretty sharp!
