Yanmar's optional mirror was on a long stalk bolted to the cylinder head.

See image04 in the Yanmar brochure linked from my sig file.

Lots of folks having fun with the idea. Guess Real Men don't use mirrors. Count me in the Wuss category, then, because I really want a mirror, just haven't figured out an easy way to do it, yet.

Why do I want a mirror? Simple. I keep backing into things. Some may remember that I forgot a big hole was behind me, backed into it, and turned the tractor upside down with me sitting in 3' of water underneath it...then, there's the pain the neck of turning to see where I'm going when box blading, etc. I've learned to drive trucks, trailers, RVs and such completely with the use of mirrors -- I rarely turn my head to back up -- and I want the same convenience on the tractor. When we were racing, we used a WINK multi-element mirror, and I've been thinking about the same thing for the tractor -- let's you see everything behind you.

So, there's some good ideas above, but without a canopy, I haven't found the right solution, yet. I guess I'm going to have to build a canopy and mount a WINK on the leading edge.

Don....... have you considered a TV camera on the back of the tractor.... in fact, you could get one of those TV's that has a picture in a picture and watch your favorite TV program and also keep an eye on what is behind you while you are working the tractor. If you get one of those hands free cell phones, you can talk to your friends also. One of the hats that keeps your favorite brew in it so you sip while operating, and you have the best of all worlds. You will be just like some of those people that are whizzing by on I-95 during rush hour except that you will be on a tractor instead of a mini van. Can we call you soccer dad??? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Actually, I have considered it. The monitor could mount right above my instrument panel, the camera on the ROPS, and there's little chance of it being knocked off. Here's one on EBay -- rear view camera -- as I think about it, $219 (including shipping) would be cheaper than a canopy.

I don't need the drink hat, since I already have a cooler hanging from the steering wheel that holds a 2 - liter bottle of Diet Pepsi. I've got the wireless setup for the laptop; now all I need is a suitable mount so I can stay in touch with TBN while on the tractor.

Those little cameras and monitors are quite common on motorhomes; our last motorhome had one and I loved it. My brother's Matco Tool truck was also equipped with one. But I've not seen one on a tractor yet. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

( I put a 4" round convex mirror on my canopy awhile, but then didn't like it, so I replaced it with a flat 4" x 6" mirror )

I had the opposite problem - I had flat mirrors, but didnt feel I saw well enough, so I drilled a couple more holes in the stalks and added wider angle trailer mirrors (don't have a newer picture since the modification). They helped more.
