Security & Theft Theft Proof?

Clear a path to your house and put a target stand up right next to the tractor with a bunch of holes in the bullseye.

I kinda did that but not intentionally. I just happen to park my equipment where the targets are. I do remove a few fuses though every time I park it. I do the same to my truck these days. I worry more about fuel theft than tractor theft. The only way anyone will get by me and my dogs to steal the fuel is if they get real lucky and drive it off in the middle of the night.

Take out the relay that activates the fuel solenoid. No fuel - no start - no joy ride.

Please.. a high school level electronics course and a coat hanger will get by most fuel -off- solenoid setups.

The very phrase 'theft proof' is an oxymoron. Think about a cheap quartz watch.. and the 'water proof' / 'water resistant'.

You can make a tractor theft resistant to varrying degrees... but 'proof'.. I doubt that you could camp out on it with a rifle and scope and it still be 100% safe if someone really wants it... all they got to have is 2 guys with bigger scopes...

If someone wants your stuff BAD ENOUGH.. they can get it. All you can do is mitigate.

Physical limitations.. like removing wheels.. and cutout switches will deter the casual opportunistic theif.. but a guy with a roll off truck can drag it up and go.

keys and locks only keep 'honest' people out.

good luck to the original poster.

I like the steering wheel idea... how about if you could make up a metal sleeve that you can lock, and place over the extended steering wheel cylinder... then pad-lock it. Or for people that have backhoes you could rig something up like a lockable sleeve that goes over the extended stabilizer cylinder or boom cylinder.

sawsall, abrasive saw, or a gas axe solves most of those problems..

An alarmed garage/shed is not a bad idea?
Out of sight out of mind for thieves.

There is no magic setup to prevent theft.
Any of these suggestions so far will make it
difficult for most thieves.

I've toyed with the concept of a locater beacon.
It may get stolen but it could be tracked down?
There is problems with that too...

I subscribe to the out of sight theory.

Bolt cutters go through chain so easily that anything that depends upon chain just prevents casual theft. Now that they made battery operated cut off wheel grinders, nothing is safe.

Sounds to me like pole barn may be in order to remedy this situation.

Step one - Get CNCHOUSE (Commander in Chief House or wife) to agree to the need for a pole barn.

Step two - Build Barn

Step three - Park Tractor in Barn

Problem Solved.

Although its not really an economical fix its a great idea.

You might think about getting LoJack for your tractor. It won't prevent it from getting stolen, but you will be able to have it tracked and recovered. I have it in my car, and I don't see any reason why someone couldn't use it for their tractor too. LoJack Car Security System for Stolen Vehicle Recovery

Have insurance on it.
Don't leave the keys in it.
If it disappears - get another one.

From what I hear, tractor theft is really low.

I agree it is impossible to theft PROOF anything!
The idea is to make it not worth the trouble so they go steal someone elses instead...that's assuming they are stealing it because they WANT it.
If they are stealing to just get someone to and make 'em mad then they'll vandalize it if they can't get it, that happens sometimes anyway.

On my remote 2 hour away property I had all intentions of leaving a travel trailer/toy hauler on site until I thought about it more. I was asked if I was worried about someone stealing it, not too much, what would make me madder would be to arrive some weekend and find it trashed from some teenage drug/alcohol/sex party...I'd rather it just be gone:cool:
