Re: Them \'R\' Ugly!!

Charles Winman Deere, John Deere's son, told early Deere distributors to forgo advertising that even mentioned other brands. No matter if Deere was better or worse, slamming other brands only gave free press for Deere's competitors.

Charles Deere is more responsible for Deere becoming the major player than John Deere himself.

I agree whole-heartedly that slamming the competition is poor business tactics.

Tell the world what is RIGHT with your product, and NOT what is wrong with the other guys.

Ethical business tactics may be in short supply nowdays, but they're worth the extra dollar.

Re: Them \'R\' Ugly!!

Even though I agree that the first contact ads shouldn't mention the competition, I find that the best sales experience comes from a rep who knows enough about the competition to compare and contrast his product to theirs, including being honest enough to admit when the competition has the edge on some feature or another.

I hate it when they are either un-informed about the features that differentiate their product, or take the fanatical viewpoint that everything on their product is just perfectly better because their brand is always better, blah, blah, blah...

Re: Them \'R\' Ugly!!

My experience with my selling dealer is that while he knows his product well, he didn't offer to compare it to any other brand when I asked the questions. He chose to let me make my own decision about one brand of quality over the other. He also wasn't well educated on the options that were available with my BX, and when I asked for the flip over pads, he said that they didn't offer such an item. I suggest that he check the sales order forms. That was the first pair that he had ever sold for a BX.... and probably the only pair that he has sold since. I believe that some sales people are afraid to go down the road of comparison since they now realize that some prospective purchasers know more about both brands than they themselves do. A tractor is like a marriage.... some are good, and some are bad. Even the bad ones remarry and the new spouse is very happy with what made the previous spouse disgruntled. You never really know either until you own/marry it/them. The only down side is that one will cost a lot more to dispose of than the other... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Them \'R\' Ugly!!

yeah, that's the one.

This guy was advertising for free and then had the nerve to badmouth the only brand that actually pays for advertising on this site. But I was wrong to bring it up like this without notifying the moderators, so I went that route.

Re: Them \'R\' Ugly!!

BOy take a few weeks off and the place goes to potty in a handbasket. What are you talking about Mike? By the way, I've sold my property, will either sell my L3830 HST with LA 723 loader, TnT, R4's, power down post hole digger, 84" mower, 72" HD hydraulic ripper boxscraper, disc, toothbar or see if the potential new owner would like to consider it. We are moving to Oklahoma /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif (not)! Actually, just down the street to a mere 1.1 acres. Does Deere have a decent riding mower? My Snapper is about shot! Rat... (I'm kind of doing the Bird thing, except we are leaving a mobile home of 950 sq ft. and moving into the life of luxury, 2490 sq ft.) The tractor will not be needed. See me in the mowing/gardening section. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
