Charles Winman Deere, John Deere's son, told early Deere distributors to forgo advertising that even mentioned other brands. No matter if Deere was better or worse, slamming other brands only gave free press for Deere's competitors.
Charles Deere is more responsible for Deere becoming the major player than John Deere himself.
I agree whole-heartedly that slamming the competition is poor business tactics.
Tell the world what is RIGHT with your product, and NOT what is wrong with the other guys.
Ethical business tactics may be in short supply nowdays, but they're worth the extra dollar.
