I used to know a guy who came to the US from Nigeria (Africa) when he was about 19. He had NEVER seen temperatures below the 60s, and that was the dead of winter at night.
Well, he came to the US in January and he arrived in the city where his brother lived... which just happened to be Detroit, Michigan. His brother had warned him that it was cold, so he wore the warmest clothes he owned. That is, he wore a cardigan sweater that buttoned up the front. His brother met him in the airport terminal and offered to let him use his coat -- it was 10 degrees and snowing -- but he assured his brother that he would be fine. They had to go outside to get to his brother's car They had some trouble finding it, so it took a while. He told me that he literally thought he was going to die.
