Ridgewalker,

Congrats, I know the exact same feeling. I was walking around on my land before I actually bought it, trying to figure it out and what I was going to do, and where I was going to do it, when I found an old road. My land used to be part of Camp Fannin, a World War II, Army replacement training facility. While on that road, I discovered what turned out to be Rifle Range Number 4 was on my land!! That road and the rifle range became the basis for my layout and where I first started to clear land. That road is over 60 years old, and still nice an smooth with just a packed clay finish!!!

Here is a picture of the end of part of the rifle range after I'd cleared it a little.

Eddie

I would be all over that rifle range with metal detector. No telling what got dropped out there. :)

Finally got a pix of that road I found during deer season. I chainsawed it back open removing mostly small stuff, 4 to 6" OD and down, I wish I would have taken a before pix. Before the snow fell I ran my brushhog up and down a couple of times. That really cleaned it up nicely IMHO

It's a little over a quarter of a mile long and gets me to the bottom of a big hollow. It turned out to be the perfect spot for my new feeder and game cam. I can back my truck right to the feeder and stand on the tailgate to fill 'er up.

The last pix is where the road intersects another logging road that runs down the top of a ridge. I think I have about 3 miles of trails on my 50 acres now...it's crazy but I like making trails, I call it therapy.

If you like trails, you should see our property. They all connect. We use them for hiking, hayrides, dirt biking, golf carting, go karting, biking, etc. And we can use them to get from place to place, but there's so many, we can easily find an easier path, and those are the ones that get used the most.

Moose sightings were very infrequent in the 60's in northern NH, only seen along the Canadian border. Now they're in all the New England states and are responsible for many wrecked vehicles, serious injuries, and too many highway fatalities. In short, if they weren't a huge money maker for ME,NH,VT Fish & Game (lottery for hunting permits) there'd be a bounty on them. Be careful what you wish for !! MikeD74T
