I agree that you may want to get turf tires. I have had ag tires and turfs but I have not had R4's. But I have read posts by guys that r4's lack traction for snow clearing driveways especially if you get a little ice. Looking at the tread design, that makes sense to me.
Given my experience, comparing the ag tires and turfs, for snow removal and mowing, I'ld have to say the turfs are better. You could try turfs without chains and see how it goes, with 4wd, chains will probably not be necessary. But if you tractor comes with R4's, and you don't want to switch to turfs or it costs too much to switch, I think you will want to put chains on the rears. It is not a big deal to put chains on once a year and take them off in the spring.
