Thinking of buying a tilt trailer, advice please

I've seen the roll back trailers and almost bought one... low angle is a big plus.

Just never seen one in person or know anyone with one.

Sounds like it is doing a good job for you and you would buy it again?

There you go jumping to conclusions, guess you didn't click the link and see their pictures. :)

I said I liked it better, still procrastinating, don't use my deckover much to haul equipment now.

I will edit the post.

I was pretty close to buying a Kaufman 22ft 15K Deluxe Wood Floor Tilt not long ago. The one thing I really liked about it was that the front 8ft are fixed, rather than the 4ft of many other brands. It seemed to offer a bit more flexibility for those times when you want to load more than one thing. For example, it would have been hard to fit my 6ft brush hog with only 4ft fixed, but 8ft would be no problem. If I had to haul two tractors I could even get my Massey on the front 8ft, load the second machine, lock the deck then move them around to balance the load.

The folks at Kaufman sent me some really nice pictures that were way better than what you see on the internet. I still may get one, but it'll be after I finish my dirt moving projects and sell some of my equipment.

Last I knew they also offered a 3% discount off the internet price if you pay via cashier's check.

This shows the difference in rear overhang of my 22' deckover, compared to the tilt above. The 4' Dovetail is a lot shorter and the axles are back further.

I put a remote on the hydraulics of our PJ tilt deckover so that I wouldn't have to get off any piece of equipment to lower the deck back down. I told my wife jokingly that it was a safety issue, but in reality it is no joke. If you go with a tilt, you'll probably like the remote. If it ever fails/malfunctions (dead battery for example) you still have the cabled control.

GManBart is right about having an 8 ft stationary. We have a 4 foot, you can't (easily) put something like a rear blade on a 4 foot if you want to take it with you while you have a BH mounted. One disadvantage is the shorter tilt probably has a higher angle.

I'm not sure I'd want the axles that far back....almost anything you load is going to be centered quite a bit forward of that, it would seem.

Guess it would depend... a larger TLB with filled rears would have a lot of weight to the rear...

Not sure that I could haul eight 5x6 round bales on that 22' tilt trailer. No problem on this one and can pull two or four more on the Big Tex tilt.

I have both an 16' dump trailer with ramps and a 22' PJ full deck tilt I can use to haul my tractor. With the BH on, the dump trailer angle is too steep and the BH will drag. The other problem using a dump trailer is securing the tractor to the D-rings in the bed. With the high sides it is tough to reach over to chain it down and too cramped to climb inside.
The full tilt bed PJ has a low approach angle (10-12 degrees) and loading with the BH on is not a problem. The axles are set back far enough so you have enough tongue weight and room to adjust position of the load. Mine has about 1100# empty tongue weight. Easy to chain down. This is my second full tilt bed trailer. Previous was a 20' H&H Speedloader.

Note to Fat Tire, Where did you get the remote for your PJ. I think mine has a 5 wire remote and most of the add on remotes I see are 3 wire.
