bvan & Meric you are both correct…Junk is manufactured overseas and either assembled here or there. But either way, crap parts makes for crappy “products”. I’ll take a Coldspot any day of the week!!

a manufacturing facility....or an assembly plant? Whirlpool is a corporation that puts its name on a product that they are satisfied to recycle on the cheap....I guess at least having US workers employed is better than no jobs, but a company of integrity with a reliable long lasting product manufactured locally? Accountability gets compromised without "pride." hence "one and done" and "sell another" is who they have become. Whirlpool USA, in name only.

my 54 year old Sears Coldspot is still keeping my beer ice cold on my back deck.....all factory USA made parts including the steel racks and outside steel casing.
They're stamping the steel. Punching the holes. Bending the metal. Installing all of the parts. I'd call that manufacturing and assembly.

Thanks for your reply Moss.

Where are the compressors made? Where are the computer boards soldered and made, who makes the ice makers etc?

I have never had an appliance fail bc the sheet metal was bent at 89 degrees or the punched hole skewed the fastening screw 2-3 degrees. However, compressors, ice makers, c- boards and other moving parts have indeed failed.

Thanks for your follow up!

Now thinking about it, those components might not be made in the US, but made by whirlpool factories world wide. Still trying to find it.

I see some refrigerator compressors were made by a Brazilian company owned by whirlpool until a few years ago.

One has to realize that it's a global economy. Things made in other countries for US companies are made to spec. Our Impala was made in Canada. My mother in-law's Toyota Sienna was more American made than the Ford F150 that year.

To think that the U.S. can compete and win by going to isolationism just isn't realistic. People in other parts of the world want what we have. To get it, they need money. To get money, they'll do a job for less money than people here will do it. That's just the way it is. You either have to adapt or you'll be left behind.

I just looked up Speed Queen and it's impressive. Next one will be a Speed Queen.

Any good refrigerators still made with real quality?
We have been satisfied with our Electrolux refrigerator. They are a Swedish company.

Frigidaire is/was GE's cheap appliances
Many years ago the electric heating element
for the oven GE price $54 Frigidaire price $25.95
Anyone have a motor freeze up on their washing
machine or dryer this is what we did years ago drill
a hole in the end close to the shaft as it had a piece
of felt there and add oil and put a vice grips on the
shaft and move the shaft back and forth all the while
adding oil in the hole it takes a few minutes but the
end result is the motor will work saving money. We
have an electric range and when you turn on the burner it takes 4500 watts so I purchase these small
single burner convection units 140 watts to 400 watts boil water very quickly and they cost less than $50 so when then break toss and get a new one you sure can save a lot of cash with them.
Speed Queen washers and dryers are made in Ripon, Wisconsin been there since the 50's
On the old refrigerators if the compressor is good I would save it with the wiring you can put it in a new frig by pass the pc board and use the sensor from the old frig or buy a new one and save money. Usually its the capacitors that quit working so just changing them out you can save your self some money and caps don't cost that much and your electronics or electric companies should have them or there's always Amazon
Anybody know anything about woods appliances???
I have a Wood's upright freezer but its going to be a refrigerator I put a thermometer inside turn the temp
up until it sits between 40 & 45 degree's.
If the gasket is bad on your unit you can replace it when you put new one on slowly tighten the way
around the door like installing a new head gasket
on a car/truck

Frigidaire is owned by Electrolux and has been since 1986. Was originally owned by GM, then White Sewing Machine and finally Electrolux.

Electrolux bought GE Appliance in 2014 for $3.3 billion.
