Kind of disappointing considering how yesterday was. It got cold in a hurry yesterday evening as I was trimming our trees. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I send my condolences.

We had a very light dusting this morning but it has since melted. It has only got up to about 35 degrees. The winds right now a very strong. They have been blowing strong since last night. They are supposed to continue blowing for a while yet. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I sick of all this cold ...... I surveyed the winter damage today and it looks like I lost all of the Holly bushes that I planted last year... about 10 of them.... 4 Laurels that I planted a few years ago, and I don't know about some of the other plants that have lost their leaves and have yet to start to put out any buds yet. It has taken me almost 20 years to get around to do the landscaping and now I am loosing it as fast as I put it into the ground. Last winter I lost a beautiful dogwood tree that was planted 2 years ago to the cold and a 8 year old Dwarf Japanese maple that the mice had girdled the bark off of. I think that I am going to be called black thumb if things don't change soon. I have a few tulips and daffodils to get into the ground this week and I can't do that if the ground has snow covering on it.

Junkman, you may be right; may have lost them. But about 20 years ago, we had a record cold spell, icre storm, etc. that lasted awhile and I, and my neighbors, thought we'd lost ours. All the leaves fell off and everything looked like it was dead. The neighbor across the street used a chain and his pickup truck to pull all his and planted new that Spring. I just pruned all mine back to about 12" high and they came back better than ever.

Frank:

How many years you lived in the Buffalo snow belt area??

Should be no surprise to you. You know what happens, it tracks across the Great Lakes and dumps on you. That snow has your name on it. It says FFFFFFRRRRRAAAAANNNNKKKK, I am CCCCCOOOOMMMMIIIINNNGGG again. Forget the mower. get out the shovel. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Buuuurrrr.

What was it like today? Gorgeous, sunny day.

Those snow pictures sure do look pretty though.

Spring weather.

I took the attached photo yesterday (4/3/04) when the wild turkeys visited the orchard.

One of the worst snow storms I EVER had to endure was over a Easter Weekend around 1985 in the U.P.

Several feet in one day. Power was out, roads closed, and a stupid kid who did not know any better who thought he HAD to go back to school. Even Michigan Tech closed which is a rarity.

I did make the journey safely, but lost several pounds and a couple of years off my life in the process.

Back in 1972, we were living in Massachusetts, up near the New Hampshire border. My wife's parents had moved to Florida, she had visited them, and really wanted to move there. So, the first week of April I flew down there to meet her (she had been there a few weeks) and tour the area. I wasn't totally sold on the idea.

But, we flew back to Boston and landed at Logan airport on April 6 -- right into a blinding snowstorm! We had a real struggle getting home, and had to snowblow the driveway before we could get inside -- traveling with two toddlers! That was it. We had actually made the decision before we got back to the house. The house went up for sale, and on July 1, 1972 we were on our way to our new home. We arrived July 4, and have never given a moment's thought to going back home. I sold the snowblower at a garage sale in June, didn't get much for it because of the season, but it was still the happiest day of my life.

Tomorrow will be the 32nd anniversary of making the best decision we ever made in our lives. I was working outside a good part of today, and got a bit of a sunburn...

Where I live in Indiana, and this area they have a saying, if you dont like the weather, stick around about 30 minutes it will change.

I have used the heater in the van in the morning and the AC in the afternoon.
