I think they were just trying to point out that companies can amass tons of information on private individuals very easily now that just about everything is done electronically. There are good and bad sides to it.
For instance, next time you go to order that implement for your tractor, like a new box blade, for instance, they will already have the make and model of your tractor. Then they can tell you if it is compatible with your model or not. That would be nice... but then they'd try and up-sell you to top-n-tilt and could even tell you if you can afford it or not...
