I was tired of using cheap TSC rollers and had a water pressure tank turned into a roller. That worked good for a little while until it ended up dented to heck, so this year I had my fabricator make me a heavy duty roller and it turned out great! I just picked up the tube material and let him run with it! 5' long 30" ID 11/16 wall (thickness)

Wow - nice beefy attachment. I want one too!! I'll be needing a mini-version, however, since I'm using a 'mini-machine' these days.

I'm in the process of attempting to grow a nice lawn - my kids are finally old enough that I could grade out the...well, kinda motocross track, and give a lawn another shot. I've been loading up on lawn tractor attachments (my L4200 is a bit much for the job). Exactly where/when do you use a roller? Is it used regularly to smoosh out bumps and keep the ground flat like a cement floor with grass growing out of it (that's what I want), or just used when seeding?

zythinl, Im not sure where exactly youre at in NW OHIO but Im about 20 min from Fayette, OH and Jackson, MI is around 45 min north on 127 from the border.

I picked the pipe up from Welcome to MidwayStructural.com | midwaystructural in Jackson, MI they will have any size pipe you want! The pipe I used was actually in a pile that were "drops" from I think they said 25' long pipes. The end plates were just a phone call away to ALRO steel in Jackson, MI as well, tell them the thickness, Outer Dimension and center hole dimension and they will cut it for you. fully welded and holds water!!

standard 3/4" equipment pin attaches it to the tractor.

2-1/2" square tubing 3/16 thickness
30" Inner Diameter 60" long 11/16" thick pipe
1/2" end plates
1-3/4" center rod
1-3/4 flange bearings

Cut out so the frame and roller drum can be separated easily:

I will primarily pull it with the B2400 but at the moment it is at the dealer for a hydraulic leak so here is the BX hooked up to it.

Jay a old 100lb propane tank would work great for you!! I roll the lawns in the spring to pack any ruts or soft spots from the winter. Another bonus is along gravel roads / driveways, you can push the stones down if you mow along then like I do. They come in handy when seeding a new lawn as well!

Here is a photo of the old water pressure tank turned into a roller. It worked great, but the thickness of the tank just isnt enough when loaded and hitting obstructions in the ground. If I need be Ill buy another chunk of pipe and put this back into service.

Can't you fold the ROPS like on the BX25?

yes you can but it gets in the way when using the bagger and even folded back they arnt very low and I need as much clearance as I can get in a few places

So, how much did this end up costing you, if you don't mind me asking?

I just finished mine up this weekend... works like a charm. No sharp turns though as its contact patch is 9' long.

Man that thing is a monster, Almost 3/4" thick, you don't even need water!

Have you figured what it will weigh when filled?

Hope you don't have any steep slopes, may get the tail wagging the dog effect.

By my math, if filled full, that roller would hold just over 1500lbs of water. Add the weight of the roller itself and that ought to smash those gopher mounds! Nice work.
