Thank you for that info. I read that thread, and I guess my newbiness is showing. Appreaciate the heads up and education.
Hey I didn't know about it either until someone told me as well.

I have logs to move. In my mind, easiest way to do that is with a boom and tongs. And when I say logs to move, I refer to dozens of trees up to half a mile.

Carrying the logs in FEL doesn't work for me. Not sure how I would use BH for log moving.

As mentioned, the boom pole for pulling the trees might not be so good. You could get one of those trailer hitch mounts and use that to lift up the butt of the tree and drag it, but not knowing your terrain, hillsides could still surprise you quickly and unpleasantly.

Are the trees cut up at all? I hauled home a black walnut a couple years ago. The logs were all about 8 1/2 feet long and the largest was 20 inches in diameter or so. They were heavy enough, even after drying for a few years, that my front tires were squatting even at max pressure. If you have the R4's that wouldn't be an issue. They were in a shallow road ditch and it was paved all the way home, so I did have it pretty easy.

Yeah, I will have to post some pics of the logs and property.

Property is steep.

Trees are big. 20" would be a small one.

I will have to cut most down to 8-10' lengths to be able to handle them.

That brush fork is nice. Can it dig out shallow roots? I was thinking about getting the pallet forks for hauling logs and building a table with tools on it for projects away from the shop. But this might work out nicely and its cheaper. Though my portable workbench idea will go away.

Has anyone here used the landpride grapple on a bx25? Any good? txs

I quickly found that once I scratched my "Tractor Envy Itch" & purchased my Kubota the itch didn't go away. It just changed - to "Implement Envy"!!

My newest addition is my Log Skidder. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0IQtq0RdNs

One of the most useful things has been my Bro-Tek ripper tooth for my backhoe.

Happy shopping!!

20" trees with a BX25... you'll need to cut them to manageable lengths.
Have you considered a logging arch? If not, google them up and start reading. It takes most of the weight of the log and you pull it with your tractor's drawbar. You'd be able to handle longer length logs with an arch.

Good advice here about moving good sized logs over the distances you describe. That's going to be really hard on you and your BX no matter how you go about doing it. "Steep" adds a whole new dimension to it. A 20" log ten feet long could easily weigh as much or more than you + your BX. If that log decides to roll downhill while you're pulling it, you stand a fair chance it will take you and your BX someplace you don't want to go. Conversely, if you cut the logs down into more manageable pieces, you're looking at A LOT of chunks to be hauled. As a proud BX owner who's done plenty with his little beast, I have to say this log hauling thing is really a job for some larger equipment.

A 20" inch log is too big for a BX. My tractor is a lot bigger than a BX, and I could just barley get this 20" ten foot red oak log in the truck.

I'm glad I didn't read this thread years ago. I have been logging with my BX as it fits on the ATV trails. The bigger the diameter, the shorter I cut the log and it works for me.

Now that I'm informed that my BX is incapable of pulling these logs for the past 4 years I better put them back and use my L4060. Oh wait that won't fit on the trails.
