Thoughts on Chevy Colorado or Ford Ranger

Took me months to find a used one that was not shipped down here from the rust belt, along with the rust.

Getting hard to find a non-crew cab pickup anymore. I agree, the 3-4' beds you see these days are all but useless.

We sure do appreciate the 6ft box our ranger has.
My 2008 Ranger was a reg cab that had the optional 7 foot box. It sure was handy hauling stuff over the shorter box.

My nephew has a new Maverick / Ranger and candidly , I like the Chevy better though I'd never buy either one because a tiny truck don't work for me.

I didn't look under the hood of his but I bet it's the typical crammed in Ford powerplant and hard to service components. GM is light years ahead of Fords in that respect and we are a Ford / UAW family.
Which is it, Maverick or Ranger? They are very different vehicles.

The Ranger and the Maverick are two different models of trucks from Ford. The Ranger is a midsize truck with a body-on-frame construction, more power, and a higher ride height. The Maverick is a compact truck with a unibody construction, a hybrid engine, and more passenger space. The Ranger is better for off-road driving, hauling, and towing, while the Maverick is better for city driving, compactness, and price23.

Personally I like the Ranger's 2.7 V6 turbo and 10-speed drivetrain a little more than the GM 4 cylinder turbo and 8-speed (which has had its share of issues in the past). While it's essentially the same 8-speed GM says they've improved it so maybe it'll be fine.
I couldn't get the compare feature to come up on Fords site or see what the bed length is. Both Ranger and Colorado beds look pretty short, maybe 60".

Ford continues to have problems with the 10 speed.

I wasn't aware of the 10 speed problems for Ford. Don't GM and Ford share this transmission? I recall some years back that they were developing it together.
