I performed a great deal of comparative research on Kubota's website. The 'largest' L-series that shows up on my spreadsheet is the L4400. As soon as I clicked on any "Grand L" tractor that gave me any type of improved specification, there was a significant price jump.

Put another way, you need to get into the absolute largest of L-series tractors to start talking about the loader/backhoe ratings held by the MX4700/5100. Checking again, the list price on a L5740 with loader and backhoe is ~$44k while the same "simple" setup in the MX5100 is ~$36k.

The deal my brother has lined up now has his "dream tractor" with 4-in-1, top-and-tilt, several attachments, and a partridge in a pear tree for under $40k.

I have no doubt that somewhere in there, the L-series is a "nicer" tractor. Honestly haven't looked that closely.

He's going for bang-for-your-buck. Purely a 'rating vs. price' analysis. And using that criterion, the MX4700 is one incredible tractor. But like I said before, he's throwing the extra log on the fire to get the turbo with the better low-end grunt. That's what he wants.

And to the other question, the BH92 is the "factory" backhoe that is placed on the MX-series tractor.

Dealer says MX5100 does not have its own factory made Back Hoe and is suggesting the L5740 over the MX5100. Any comments of which is better except for extra HP?

The Kubota Australia website shows the BH92 backhoe for the Grand L models but does not show anything similar for the MX5100. That's different from the US, where the BH92 is available for both lines. Don't know why there is a difference. The backhoes here are US manufactured; maybe the dealer can advise whether the Australian ones are sourced locally or shipped from the US and whether the MX backhoe fitment is imminent.

The Grand L's are more than just "luxury" machines. They have greater 3 point lifting capacity and a newer generation of HST that is quite an advance over the one on the MX. The L5240 or 5740 should have performance and capability very much comparable to the MX5100, although you'll pay for the upgraded transmission.

I thought the kubota bh90 was the standard kubota backhoe for the mx. Dont quote me tho, thats just my thought.

They do! This dealer is wrong. Tell him to show you the Kubota MX series customer information flyer or look it up on-line. It clearly lists the BH92 BH as an add-on. See it here: Kubota Tractor Corporation - Tractors | M Series | MX4700/MX5100

If you want to see the MX5100 in action, here's Ted from everythingattachments using a shuttle shift MX5100 with a box blade. He has other videos too. Just take a look on Youtube or his web site. You'll have to look around because he has other Kubota's too. This is where I first saw an MX5100 and decided the shuttle shift wasn't a big deal. Definitely wanted this model too.

The MX series definitely offers a lot more HP per $. It doesn't offer the "luxury" but they do the same work for less. It's like a new 7 year old Grand L series...

That is correct the BH92 is the factory standard hoe.
The HST+ is nice but to be honest I have never stalled my tractor using the standard HST. I personally feel it is pretty easy to tell when the RPMs are dropping and just let up on the pedal a bit or tap the throttle. I would say that happens 4-5 times a year at most so I never felt the need for the "improved" version. I don't mean to sound like I am knocking it, I am sure it has its place, I just wanted something simpler (and cheaper).

Thanks Herkypilot, I've not seen this video before but I been watching Ted from everythingattachments on quite a few other videos and he explains everything very well..also been looking and Deene and co videos too, but ted seems to be more detailed.

You may also want to look at WOODS backhoes, they are a high quality brand that has a solid subframe mount.
As for stalling the 5100 - yep it is possible, (I didn't mean to imply it was not) but with proper range selection and throttle control you will not have an issue. Same with a geared tractor, if you push them too far they will stall.
