I was able to take some time this afternoon start over again. Dmcarty, I agree with you about the grid paper. That's where we started months ago, and we like the overall layout, so it's going to be hard to move away from the general idea. Besides, it feelsfaster and easier to use the drafting program.
Use which ever allows you to work the fastest. At this point you just want to rip through design ideas as fast as possible. One advantage with the grid paper is that you can keep the designs for reference. Yeah, you can save the files but it is soooo much easier to spread the pieces of paper around to look at the various plans you have done. It makes it easier to see what you liked and disliked. Hopefully the program will print out on regular sized paper in enough detail to do this.
I kept most of my design sketches for our house. I think the stack is 1/3-1/2 inch thick.
This list of suggestions you took from the conversation was a good idea. Now you just have to figure out which ideas you like!
If you have not done so yet, I would strongly advise fitting furniture into the spaces you are designing, either on the grid paper or in the program. We measured our furniture and then "placed" it into our designs to see what worked and what did not work. Walk around your house and notice what spaces are Right Sized and Wrong Sized. Then figure out why. Is it the furniture? Is the room just too small or too big?
We have a "unique" house. I think that is what the builder said.

He is right, it is unique, but it is what WE wanted. For instance we don't have a bedroom closet. Nope. We don't. The bedroom closet is in the bathroom. Now, the master bedroom and bath is behind one door so I guess you could call it a suite.

But it ain't real big either. It is, for use, Right Sized. It is Goldilocks sized.

A closet in the bedroom cuts up the walls which affects window and furniture placement. Also, I need clothes next to the shower. Not my bedroom. So the closet is in the bath. It is not a big closet either. We have dressers and a big wardrobe for clothes that are not worn much.
We only have two bath rooms. No guest bathroom. Too much money for something that won't get used. If someone is visiting they can use our bathroom, the kids bathroom or go outside. We don't need not stink'n guest bathroom. Waste O Money.

If we don't like you enough for us to share a bathroom, you won't be in the house anyway.

TBN advice will only go so far. The subjective things you have to figure out what works for you and wifey. That is the hardest part of all. Thankfully, the wifey and I agree on stuff like this and it was not an issue.
Later,
Dan
