"...911's response time is not going to be the greatest."

911's response time anywhere is never quick enough in some emergencies.

As the phrase goes, 'when seconds count, cops are just minutes away'. Unless you're out in the country like some of us, it could take hours...

Sadly we are at the point where "a man gotta do what a man gotta do". Good choice on the 9mm (recoil...if you are afraid to shoot the gun then it is worthless). Not familiar with your gun (I have a double-stack H&K 9mm with 17 round capacity). That Glock seems to be concealable whereas mine would not be probably not be. Hope you never need it in your work.

Yeah the 26 is a double stack, but only 10 rounds (11 with one in the tube of course). Very concealable. They actually make a single stack 9, but I did not want to trade off the number of rounds for a bit more concealability. I am a big guy so lots of room on my body.

I am a lefty so no holster yet. Had to order on line rather than buy one at the gun store. They literally had ZERO left hand holsters in stock.

Hopefully it will never be needed, but I'd hate to need it and not have it.

I grew up with guns having that "cross-bolt" safety...most modern hand-guns don't have that anymore so finding a suitable holster that holds that particular gun AND protects the trigger is now an industry on it's own. I think I paid $100 for my "outside carry" holster. And I'm still not comfortable with keeping a live load in the chamber so I don't. Just me. I keep a 20ga. Wingmaster pump shotgun next to the front door (unchambered but a couple of loads in the magazine). In my way of thinking there is nothing in the world that makes the same noise as chambering a pump shot-gun. Most people intent on "redistributing" my stuff will run like rabbits at the sound and for those that don't I can chamber the round in a heart beat. Same for the hand-gun...I think the mere presence of one will deter most of the bad people (they are cowards)...if not I practice the art of pulling back the slide in the dark then I'm good to go with 17 shots.

Yeah the shot gun with a couple in the mag and one in an open bolt is a good idea. I am thinking old school double barrel in the barn once it is built. The problem there is that there will be children around..... so locking it up is needed, but quick access is a must.

So I ended up filing for a protective order against the guy (well technically my employer did). Hearing is set for tomorrow. Should be interesting. We have a psychologist lined up that has examined the guy in relation to the divorce case to state that he is a threat to me.

Judge did not seem too receptive when the protective order request was filed, but granted it and set a hearing. That is pretty common though.

So I work in the legal field and deal with custody cases..... had a father (who is crazy and trying to get custody) tell me that if he does not get custody he would hold me personally responsible.

Now I get told that thing quite a bit..... and don't really care.

However with him, I happen to know the psychologist that did the Court ordered eval on him (and one on the mom too).... so I called psychologist to see if I should take that as more of a physical threat than just words. His answer was "I hope you are exercising your second amendment rights".

Well...... I am now. It so happens that I recently applied for a carry permit. So for my recent birthday I bought a Glock 26. Went to the range today and put the first 100 rounds through it. Had some nice groupings. I am a lefty and was shooting down and right, so I have to watch how much trigger finger I am using.

In any event I just needed to vent.

Oh and the protective order will be filed Monday. Interesting under Indiana law I can not get one for myself because he has only threatened me once. I need to show a pattern of stalking. However my employer can get one if my employer thinks the violence may happen at work. The PO can then protect me and my family and order the dirt bag to stay away from my home and place of employment.

Since my employer is like a father figure to me.... well you get the drift.

Life, ain't it grand.

Keep your powder dry!

Be careful.

I don't mean to scare you, but something that happened near my wifes hometown last year (she still works for her company up there and she usually gets any local news from co-workers).

Officials: DCF worker killed after custody dispute

I've been to numerous TPR hearings myself, and the people in family court are a interesting bunch. Sometimes they are nothing more than loud wind, but you NEVER know.

I'd take the comment by the father to you as a direct threat and report as so.

Be safe and be aware of your environment. If you see that guy ANYWHERE near you outside of court, think of nothing more than protecting yourself at all costs.

Yep I am all too aware of my surroundings. Unrelated to this we put in more security at work. Cameras, you have to be "buzzed in" to the building now (we are the only tenant) and other security. I thought it was a bunch of hog wash when we did it. I am glad for it now.

Thankfully the security people at the Court House and I are all friendly. I am down there a lot for work and have known the deputies providing security for many years. They can't let me carry into the court house, but they will walk me to my car when it is over.

I am used to being on the outside looking in of these things, not being the one needing protection.

So it goes.

In MO, most governmental entities dealing with child abuse or custody will not allow its workers to carry weapons, so my son was often dispatched to accompany them. Even when allowed, it is not a bad idea to consider requesting someone to accompany you. Many of my Officers were armed, but I encouraged having potentially dangerous in home home contacts be done in pairs or with a uniformed Officer.

I used a G27 for years and there are quite a few improvements you can do to make it fit you better. We could only modify grips and sights.

While I no longer carry regularly since retirement, if someone feels the need to, in my opinion, it should always be on your person and with a round in the chamber and seriously consider training beyond that required to get your permit.

Also, if a TRO is not extended, it will be on record that you have concerns and may be helpful in the even something happens.

We all have our favorite holster, so good luck.
