You can travel ANYWHERE in the US with a firearm as long as weapon and ammo are locked seperately of each other and "out of reach of the driver. The issue is cops that don't know their laws and people who consent to police searches....

You are 99.999999% correct...

But....

:laughing::laughing::laughing:

There is NJ and their anti hollow point bullet law. You don't want to get caught in NJ with HP cartridges. It will ruin your day and bank account since they fine you high dollars per HP. Now, I wonder if the bozos fine you if you had a carton of just HP bullets, not cartridges.

But you did mention "police searches"... ;):laughing::laughing:

There is a third way you can get in trouble.... Stay in a hotel...

A guy I used to work with stayed in NJ with a pistol loaded with HP rounds. He was in a hotel. The pistol was in a drawer...

The maid saw said pistol and called the Po Po and he was arrested for having a pistol AND for HP rounds. Now my guess is that the maid was an informant and paid to look for things when cleaning rooms but that is just a guess. Not sure how it turned out but it cost him some angst and I am sure money.

And you have to wonder why anyone let alone a whole state would be against the use of hollow point ammo. It is far safer than FMJ ammo for defense, much less likely to cause unintended harm.. How can the officials of a state be so stupid?

I think it was sorta recently that NJ allowed law enforcement to use HPs. Just insane it is....

So if LE can use HP ammo, why on earth would they not want citizens to do the same?

Thanks for the information...

I'm mostly in California and there is always a new gun ordinance in one Bay Area City or another and it got me to thinking...

We have gun free areas, magazine restrictions, coming ammunition restrictions... makes me think it is easier than ever to unintentionally run afoul.

Plus the few CC that I know are mandated to have huge liability policies and qualify each year for each weapon and if your weapon is out of service you need permission to carry a temporary substitute...

You're right, I did forget about Jersey.

Also DC and their cartridge laws.

While driving through a communist state with locked ammo and firearms stored separately, I'd NEVER even stop in the state, even for a pee break if possible.

I still now get to get my VA out of residence license since they no longer reconize NC. It would take me 15 minutes to drive through the state of Maryland when I go visit my dad up I-81 into Pennsylvania, and it would take me the same amount of time to take handgun off my person and lock gun and firearm seperate of each other.

The only thing I'll give governor Christie credit for is pardoning that stupid guy from Maine who was driving to Texas with a SUV full of guns (moving) who decided to sleep in his vehical in Jersey. Jersey, like some of the other commie states could fall off into the ocean and I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

The issue with police is I'd guess 75% of them don't even know their own state gun laws, and they're only looking to hang out of state plates.

There are other states going the other way with it. In 2008 we passed our "castle doctrine" law which allows (paraphrased) "a person to defend themselves, others, or property, anyplace said person has a right to be". Our version of the law also covers you from criminal or civil liability if the shooting is ruled as justified (most are). Our state legislature also just recently overruled the Governor to allow concealed carry without a permit for all law-abiding residents while within the state borders. That goes into effect next week. We still issue permits for our reciprocity travelling to other states.

I am also not aware of Indiana allowing one to sue for custody of a child that is not yours. We have grandparent visitation rights, but that is far different from suing for custody.

Of course you can petition to adopt a child... but there are protections there for the parents. That is also far different from suing for custody.

As for Indiana's CC laws they are pretty darn good. I am thinking of taking the class and getting the CO non-resident permit. It looks like that is the one most widely recognized by other states.

My first wife and I had two children, she passed when they were three. I married the bat sheet crazy woman , not knowing she was going to become bat sheet crazy. She never adopted my children but we had a long ugly custody battle for kids that she had never adopted. My attorney told me that in Indiana anyone can sue for custody of anyones children if they felt they were not in a good home yada, yada yada.

Now that this thread has gone completely off topic (by talking about adoption law)....

Years ago a friend and mentor of mine got married to a gal that had a child from her first marriage. The bio-dad never paid child support so my friend ended up adopting her little girl. He had a career change and moved to TN with his family. The new wife came up here from time to time to see her family/parents. The trips became a little more frequent... (yeah, you can see where this is headed!) He told me that he was leaving for work one morning and the wife said "I'll be gone when you get home. I'm filing for divorce." He thought she was joking and replied "yeah, we all need one of those every now and then." Came home and she was gone along with most of his/their belongings.

Turned out she started seeing the bio-dad while she was back home and moved back in with him. So my buddy ended up paying child support for a child that he adopted that was living with the deadbeat that wouldn't pay child support! Sheesh!
