I just saw this from the NRA...

NRA-ILA | Ohio: NICS Compliant Standard Now Recognized for All Valid Ohio Concealed Handgun License Holders

From what I gather, it means that if I buy a firearm from an FFL dealer in OH, I can just show my CCW permit and forego them having to call in the info on the form.

That's how I read it too. I wish we had that here. Even with a CCW we still have to have the NICS check when purchasing a firearm. It doesn't make a lot of sense as the CCW check is more inclusive than the NICS check. And it would speed up firearm purchasing a bit. Not that it normally takes that long, (usually 5 minutes) but would be handy when the NICS system is down or backlogged. Which can and does happen.

Now imagine you have all this happen to you, except you live in (rural upstate) New York state, who's pistol laws are made with the city in mind. You cannot and will not get a permit to carry concealed in most counties of the state. You MAY get a "restricted" permit that allows you to possess said pistol only when hunting, fishing, or target shooting. This usually takes 9-12 months to obtain. You must be fingerprinted, have a background check, and in my county, pay a $125 fee. The staff at the pistol permit office are openly condescending and rude to you (as you are only a peasant) and treat you like a wanna-be SWAT operator. And your permit totally depends on the whims of a judge who has a 10-year term and brings whatever political biases he has into the equation.

I not only imagined it, it happened to me.

That's one big reason why I moved:D

One company wanted me to move back to NY to work in Albany of all places. You should of seen the looks on their faces when I told them I couldn't do it because I couldn't take my guns with me.

They would have fainted if they learned of the the suppressor's.

About dam time! They have been beating about the bush for 4 years on this. I had to get a Federal ID cause something would pop up on my checks and they would not tell me why the hold.

Yeah I am pretty happy with Indiana's CC law. We are must issue. So go apply and as long as you do not have a criminal pass you get a permit. We also have a life time permit so I never have to reapply. Of course if you get into criminal trouble there is a process to revoke your permit.

Be safe, Indiana has some really strange rules regarding child custody. You can sue for custody of children who aren't even your children in Indiana.

Can you elaborate on this?
I have lived in Indiana all my life and this is the first time I have ever heard of this.......

So how do you know short of calling the day of entry the status of State or even City reciprocity when traveling with a firearm?

That's the way it should be everywhere.

I use a phone app that updates frequently.

The one I use with iPhone is simply called "CCW". Can't remember if it cost a little or was free, but it keeps on top of changes between states pretty good.

You can travel ANYWHERE in the US with a firearm as long as weapon and ammo are locked seperately of each other and "out of reach of the driver. The issue is cops that don't know their laws and people who consent to police searches.

Pretty much the **** states are California, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts. I'm guessing Chicago also f****s their state up like New York City. When I lived up north and drove to Montana hunting, would always drive through Chicago around 0300.
