Thanks to Lou & Rick for correcting my incorrect statement.

Here is a video of the linkage of the position and draft control levers connect to the tractor under the seat. Everything seems to be working and connected properly.

I love my draft control when Im working with my box blade.

This discussion of draft control is great. I had to quit lurking and login to give a thank you to LouNY and everyone else.

I have a Mahindra 4wd 5545. The manual is sub-optimal concerning draft control. I finally settled on a way to use it with my HD box blade. (I maintain our 1 1/2 mile long gravel driveway with it.) It works, but my method is totally wrong. I think it "works" because I am not really using the draft control with my technique . . . I just thought I was.

I believe I will simply use the position lever to set the blade where I want.

You likely need to adjust your draft and position control linkage and I think you can eventually cause bigger problems if you do not. I have installed draft control on several tractors including an MX5100 that is like yours. Get the one page installation sheet and adjust. Easy peasey. You just put a 100 lb weight on the drawbar and adjust the length of the threaded rods a little bit and tighten lock nuts. One must have moved. Instruction should be put there and I have them if you can’t locate. I am out of town for a few more days, however. The tractors I have done, M7040, MX5100 and L4300 all had the same instructions. Once you understand and use draft control correctly, you will amaze and amuse your friends with most any ground engaging or grading operation. People stop to take pictures of my work. Good luck.

On my above post, excuse no paragraph breaks but I don’t know how to do it on a phone.

This could be the issue. Please post instructions when you get a chance. I don't remember seeing any threaded rods on my tractor. I'll go back and look.

I'm not going to be back for a few days so do a fast check online to see if anything shows up. If not, I'll send when I get back. Computer is limited use for me right now.

Your video is pretty clear. Your draft control lever and your position control lever are moving their respective shafts and each shaft is pinned with a split in thru the shaft. Nothing threaded. No locknuts. No, it is not related to some adjustment of draft and position control linkages.

It seems exytremely likely that the previous owner was stumped on this and passed the problem on to you. It was not something simple or he would have fixed it.

Just like I said from day one -- the fact that your lowering speed knob will not move is THE KEY to your problem. Something is stuck. Can you see the mechanism that the lowering speed knob/shaft go down into ? Probably not as that is almost impossible to get to in most tractors. That will have to be investigated.

OK, here are the pages of what I thought was a one page sheet. Oops. I can't do a PDF so took pictures of the book and if you can't read let me know. Your draft control is likely installed fine but it's the relationship between it and the three point linkage that is almost certainly the issue. After my installation I had to adjust it-- threaded rod--to get it to do what it should and not "strain" the hydraulics or cause the three-pt arms to behave weird. These are the exact instructions for the MX4700.

The adjustment you will try is on page 6 (#64) and is the threaded rod at the upper part by the top link. It's clear in the picture and clear at the very end of your video. To adjust correctly you would need to read the instructions and put the 100 (?) lb weight on the three point linkage and then turn the threaded rod until it does what the instructions say. The hardest part for me was finding the 100 lbs of weight. Adjusting the threaded rod was easy. As noted, I've done several installations and it was easy.

You don't need to adjust the draft control but rather the relationship between it and the three point linkage. I would take the easy path here and follow the directions to adjust. When I first installed mine it behaved like yours until I did the adjustment. Relax and good luck. Don't overthink this until you need to. Also, loosen up that underseat knob because it needs to be and you can also rule it out or in. It's still a possible cause.
