Throwing in the towel

I'm glad to tell you, wish I were not the owner...

STC52V 27CV Kohler

The first year my Scag mower was great. I would buy another if I could be assured it would continue to run properly.

The factory rep supposedly has looked at my mower several times, but I have not received any offers for restitution to date.

AND I STILL DO NOT HAVE A MOWER

gmccall,
Unless your machine is one of those monstrosities that looked good on paper but never should have never been produced to begin with or if it is just one of those oddball machines that come from a good line but for some reason the stars never aligned for it (it happens in the best of anything you can name), I'd say your problem has more to do with the shops you're trying to deal with then the machine itself.

If I were you I would have long found an independent to look at and fix the **** machine.
From there after getting the machine 'on the road' again I'd write directly to the company head quarters with my story of the wonderful service you've received from their representatives along with copies of the fist full of the receipts from the last few months and the bill you paid to actually have the machine fixed. Explain to them why you will not nor ever recommend to anyone beyond your worst enemy to purchase one of their machines.
Shrug, it may not do any good but perhaps it'll help you get some bad taste out of your mouth.

Find some one that actually cares about fixing machines and get your life back.

ETA:
If you don't have any receipts from the fiasco of the last 4 months or so, go back to the shops and tell them you want copies of the records. And take no crap, they are your records.

My mower was and is still under warranty so I had to go with a dealer shop for what should have been a simple repair.
If I had it to do over I would have paid for the repair at an independent shop.
An interesting note and lesson here is Scag reps let this go on for the last 3 months. How many more days or months will this go on.
I think Scag should have stepped in within a month and resolved the issue. ****, I offered to purchase a new machine for a reasonable trade.

I need a machine that is backed by the manufacturer, but I doubt there is one.

I think the above post is perfect except I wouldn't say id never recommend the brand. If you say that, they have no vested interested in helping you. Saying something like; " How am I supposed to recommend this machine to friends and family when I've had this luck?" may actually get a refund for the independent shop and an apology from the head office.

I had a similar issue with a echo chain saw, 3 incompetent dealers. It turned out it was improperly set up carb, fixed it myself, never run so good.

....And another update (sort of) on this Kubota.....while perusing the craigslist ads the other day,a GR2100 is now on there for $4500-same name as guy that bought mine for $1500 w/ tranny problem,a few more hours than what mine had on it when sold, and said was selling for father's estate(guy that bought mine was getting it for his dad). No mention of tranny repair, only said that it was bought from dealer around 6 years ago for over $10k-well,it was spring of 2007,and cost $7500,serial # on mine was #15369 if anyone wants to call on it......
