TIFERMEC BA22 3pt Backhoe

By "rigid mount", you mean a subframe, correct? A subframe is always
better, except in cost.

Yes I meant the subframe. And I agree that the subframe is always the best but this set up looked very interesting.

I have a Gherardi side shift 7.5' backhoe, very similar to the Tifermec. Both are Italian made.

Mine came also with this 5 point setup. This is more rigid than the 3 point for sure but I felt it not be rigid enough for the 4850 lbs (2200kg) breakout force so I made a subframe. Cant be more rigid than this. The hoe wont move and inch in its mountings.

Here is some pics, with 5 point and with my "subframe" I kept the top link and the extra 5 point links. The pivot lock is where the lower subframe arms is attached to the backhoe. The two extra links I moved away from top link bracket, it is now mounted on the lift arm hole/bracket. This is much beefier than the Cat 1 top link bracket.
The "subframe" is attached to the FEL frame which is connected from the front to the rear axle. I also took the hitch bracket away and bolted the "subframe" there instead. You can see it in pic 4.

One of the other advantage with a sub frame is that the backhoe is much more closer to the tractor, this make some stability.
I use my tractor more like a TLB than a tractor so the backhoe stays on all the time except during winter time.

Thanks for posting pictures of your Gherardi backhoe. It looks like a twin of my Tifermec except for the side shift. I really like the sideshift feature. The standard five point setup on these two backhoes is identical.

I hope to start my subframe this week. I am struggling with the toplink part of the design. I'd rather not have to remove my sidelinks and I must be able to easily remove the backhoe easily as I am always changing attachments.

Now if you are comparing the use of cat 1 toplinks
above instead of the usual anti-lift bars that come with subframe mounts,
then I would be confident that using toplinks would be about as good.

Oops, I meant to say 3-point hitch mounts instead of subframe mounts
in the above sentence.

Another interesting Italian backhoe (Gherardi), SWEDEN.

One super-easy upgrade you might try is to convert your joystick handles
to balls, instead of the OEM plastic caps. It makes them much easier
to use. You can drill holes in 2 golf balls....works great for this and
the TIFERMEC, too.

The photo shows the braces you get with Woods 3-pt hitch setups. These
2 Z-shaped braces may have more meat that a std cat 1 toplink, but I
am confident the std toplinks will be fine.

Of course, I am in no way suggesting that anyone should put a hoe on a cat
1 3PH, especially on a little B.

Tifermec use three cat 2 toplinks for strength in their 3pth setup. It looks like the Gherardi uses cat 2 toplinks as well in their stock 3pth setup.

Cheers dfkrug. That sounds like an easy neat mod. Have to look into it :)
BTW, your subframe thread was very helpful, I read it many times when I designed my subframe.

Thats correct. My concern was not the size of the toplinks it was the toplink bracket (is this the correct name?) where they were attached to. This bracket took all the beating while digging, the lower lift arms was not much for a help. I was worried to rip out the bracket and all of the lift box while digging :)
But I bet my Mahindra has not as sturdy bracket as your Kubota has so maybe there is no worries.

If you have not read dfkrugs subframe thread I can recommend you to do that, very much information.

Should be a sticky :)

Did your Gherardi backhoe come with a top link "bracket" like the one in the picture below to connect the three cat 2 top links to? Kubota does make a heavy duty top link bracket for the L3130 but I'd prefer to spend the money on the steel for a subframe instead. I have been reading every post I can find on backhoe subframes inclding the excellent posts by dfkrugs, 3RRL and others. I hope to start my subframe very soon.

Glad it was helpful.....that's why I posted it.

I may do one more subframe, perhaps this fall. It will be on another
JD 4300, but this time I think I will do it as a 4-pt 2 piece subframe,
just to keep me interested.
