Buying Advice Tiller options GC2400

Question for kingkutterrep. I have hit a few rocks now with my XB tiller. One was on my very first pass with it. Each and every time it kills my tractor in a snap. Initially I thought the clutch on the PTO shaft must need adjusted. A few days ago I took a look at it and it would appear that the nuts are backed out to the furthest point that would sustain full thread engagement. Any suggestions?

It doesn't sound like your clutch is slipping. Have you 'made it slip' according to the manual?

My Bush Hog Tiller will not stall my tractor, the slipclutch will slip first.

If it's stalling your tractor, you are getting enough force to do serious damage to the tractor, or.............you are running at a very low rpm.

I tilled fresh ground for a neighbor last weekend, it was mostly rock..........Except for the huge piece of concrete I ran into ..........Clutch worked as designed............I backed up, lowered FEL , dug out the concrete, then finished tilling.

Making it slip, before using it, is necessary. The clutch discs can become stuck together, causing the problem you are describing.

I'll be out the rest of the day, so I'll add things 'to do', just in case.

You said in a previous post that the 'nuts' on the slip clutch were backed out almost all the way. If you can't get the clutch to 'slip' as per the manual, you may need to disassemble the slip clutch as the plates may be frozen together.

It should be a relatively easy job. Just be careful taking the 'discs' apart so as not to break them.

After reassembly, follow the 'slip' procedure as per your manual.

I had a minute this morning to try to work on the thing. First thing I did was try to remove the shaft from the tiller. This showed me that it did indeed slip due to my inability to remove the bolt that locks it on. I was unable to get it to slip back so I had to disassemble the clutch on the tiller just to remove it. Once I did I found everything was bright and shiny. I put it all back together and left it slightly looser than I found it. Hoping that will help. Won't really know till I jamb another rock though I suppose. There were a few nicks on the steel, but I doubt that would cause too much trouble.

I'm not sure about the King Kutter procedure.

But, on my Bush Hog, it says to loosen the adjustment nuts, them place the tiller on the ground and engage it. It should slip at that time. Then tighten the nuts according to the manual.

Tried that. Didn't work to well. Just chewed up every spot I dropped it. I barely have the nuts on the plate now. Don't think I can back them out any more without them falling off. Guess we will see next time I jamb a rock.

Now would be the time to contact King Kutter, it sounds like there may problem with your tiller.

I'll also add here, as I did in the PM I sent to you.........

Your slip-clutch is not working properly, the next rock you hit with the tiller.......may very well tear your PTO to pieces.

Warranty may cover the new transaxle that will be required, but then again , it may not.

Not trying to be an alarmist........but..........your tractor isn't stalling from bogging down. By your desription, your tractor is stalling from 'blunt force' caused by an inoperable slip-clutch. That much force will cause things to break.

I'll try loosening it more when I find the time. Maybe that will do it.
