I just picked up new tire chains from my local JD dealer, $125 CDN, 2 link. They're 26X12s for my 2305.

I put them on last night and went for a test run. What a difference!!! I can actually scrape down the built up packed ice/snow that's accumuated in front of the garage over the winter. I can PUSH back all the existing snow hills I've made over the entire winter. This thing does not quit! Next job today is to chip down the mound that's accumulated in front of the barn door.

Considering it tool 10 mins to install, I've effectively doubled, maybe trippled my winter horsepower, I'd say they're well worth it!

Note: If I have time today, I'll be doing the engine and tranny oil today. It's my first 50 hr service. Based on what I've read from the forums here, I've decided to go with break in engine oil, even though the JD manual specifically states not to use break in oil. My thinking is the manual refers to ongoing oil changes, not the first oil change within the first 100 hours. Thanks to everyone for their info.

Regards,
G

Very nice... I've got a tractor on the way that I originally ordered with r4's but after much debate I switched the order to include turfs instead. After reading many of the posts here I decided that if more traction were needed I could always add chains like you did. The turfs shouldl be a little easier on my soft lawn.
