In north North Idaho we use chains and many styles. Cleated skid steer chains are great but not around the house or drive.
Duos (traditional H pattern tractor) chains are far gentler but good grip. Ladder chains are still good and better if you can get no more than 1 1/2 to 2" between. We have them made for "every-other-link" cross chains. Another major advantage is close cross chains keep the chains on top the traction treads
where they should be. A reason for no go forward but go in reverse up hill, beside to light a rear, is that reverse is a lower gear than people use in forward in most instances. Go low up hill and this will often compensate.

<font color=blue>I think that I will be going with the regular duo- grips and my soon to be loaded rear tires. If I need some additional weight, I have some ideas for a couple of different ways to add weight to my rear blade.</font color=blue>
If you want more traction, adding weight to your rear blade won't do you much good, once your rear blade is on the ground (unless you plow your snow with the rear blade raised a bit off the ground?) It may help you get your blade to dig in a bit better when you are trying to scrape up ice, for example.

I have only a limited amount of time to do anything at all, so I ended up ordering chains from Tire Chain.com. Although I know for a fact this is not the cheapest way out, it isn't the most expensive, either. The loaded tires will probably take of the problem anyway. The idea of adding more weight to the rear blade framework is also to help out when using the loader if the loaded tires don't quite do the job. I hope it all ends up being overkill, that usually works best for me.

ELMO, I have to comment on you signature of "SEMPER UBI SUBUBI". Haven't heard that phrase since freshman Latin Class in 1981! Brings back some memories.

About the only thing I remember from my 6 years of high school Latin (a bit of a slow - read lazy - learner more interested playing basketball an extra year) was "castra punenta *** maxima alacritata" - The spelling is questionable and the quote has nothing to do with this string and not much to do with anything else either - I think it was supposed to be a reference to the Romans who were always "pitching camp with the greatest of speed"." /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
