Tire chains, front only?

/ Tire chains, front only? #11
I ran front only chains for a couple of years on my Farmtrac 270. I never had any issues, however I was careful with them. I now run front and rear chains on the same tractor, and I am still careful with them.

As mechanic for a DOT in lake effect snow country, I have seen and repaired my share of torn up snow removal equipment. I liken spinning chained tires to wheel hop in a car or truck, BAD. I plow in a gear that gives me a max speed of about 4 to 5 mph, and as soon as I feel the slightest bit of of loading and unloading of slipping tires [ hopping], I push in the clutch and stop.

Now that I have all four chained, I am never looking back.
