Tire chains

For people that are running tire chains, what are you using? I'm looking at getting double ring as I'd like to use the tractor in the woods to haul firewood in the summer, and for plowing my driveway (400ft of stone) in the winter. I also have to get to the compost pile when we clean out the horse stall.

Recommendations?

On my Kioti CK30hst (CT230), I have two link ladder chains. 3/8 on the rear and 1/4 on the front. I bought them from www.tirechains.com. For Winter snowplowing, the tractor is a tank. I could see where these would pack up with mud if in the woods but maybe your Summers are dry enough.

I have worried since I bought my tractor in March.
I demo'd a tractor with turfs on it last spring with snow on the ground and it couldnt get out of its own way.
My industrials havent even thought about getting stuck all winter (without chains) taking care of 900 foot of driveway along with a large barnyard in northern indiana. AND..... it has been the snowyest winter in years

Bought my chains from www.tirechains.com also. I run the Duo-Ladder v-bar chains on the rear. Great improvement in traction compared to no chains. I also studded my front tires to get steering traction. The thing is unstoppable. I also bought diamond chains for all four wheels on my jeep from the same vendor. They have proven to have fast reliable service and I would definitely recommend them.

Yeah I too when with the duo-ladders from TireChains.com for the rear tires. I can now plow in 2 wheel drive. Still need 4 wheel to get back up the driveway while plowing. I can actually push snow up the driveway with the chains on. They are even more valuable now that the driveway has iced over from this thaw we had.

Not only maintaining a driveway and the area around the barn, but have to clean out paths in the pasture for the horses and make runs to the compost pile. Can't believe I went most of the winter with out them.

I am seriously thinking about getting chains for the front. Is it really that big of an improvement in traction and control?

The chains on the front of mine do let it steer very well when it's gets icy or hard packed. A definite improvement if you push snow with the fel or have a front blade. The front will go where you want it to and not the bucket/blade pushing the front around. Traction wise, I hardly ever use the diff lock and just let the front and rear work together. The 1/4" link chain on the front is just enough to let the front get a good bite.

I second VictorW. tirechains,com and the 3/8 - 2link make sure you don't skimp on the spring tighteners
