Tire side wall cracks?

My titan's cracked, been that way since 2005. On the other hand, my Michellin's cracked, and are now losing air via the sidewall.

All bogus. I have yet to see even the cheapest automotive tire crack before 20 years, and they are surely outside all the time. Considering these things cost ~$400-500 per tire, this type of premature aging is absolutely unacceptable.

Uh, Jay...your "All bogus" statement is a little too blunt and too broad. :(

Surely you do not wish to imply that everyone who has posted their personal experience re tire cracks at less than 20 years is making it up:confused:

Sixdogs, OP says tractor is 13 months old.

I too have had car tires less than 20 years crack(used on trailer from junked car) and wouldn't hold air. But my 27 year old tires on little Ford 1200 are still hanging in there, hold air, starting to crack some.

I have a little problem with this tire. The tread sort of fell off and I think the tube leaks.

Maybe a patch and some super glue to put the tread back on??

Here is a photo of the sidewall. This is typical on both rear tires.View attachment 202553

Yep rider thats one of the issues with the Titans. The picture that rd_macgregor posted is another one of the issues. Titan never told me what they thought caused the problem but they know about it.

Crash...uh.....did you choose your name before or after taking that photo:laughing:
I would agree, there are just a few cracks in that tire:D

Do you work for Titan, cause that sounds like the company line. These tires absolutly s#ck. It is a problem that Titan knows about and does nothing to fix. They had an extremely bad batch of tires and do nothing for the customers that have them. The cracks are not from inflation issues or overloading. Believe me I have been thru THREE sets of these pieces of trash.

Gee, sorry I hit an obvious sore point with you. I was just sharing the fact that one of a pair of new tires looked EXACTLY like the one in the photo and the other one was fine. This was due to underinflation.
As for being a company man, you should have taken the time to look at my past posts and you would have seen this is my only reference to tire

Too much coffee?

That's the problem with buying American. Maybe you can find some good reliable offshore tires to replace the American Titans. Don't the Koreans make tires?

No - I mean that a tire cracking before 20 years is BOGUS! It is inexcusable and I would consider it an obvious manufacturing defect. Guys with cracked tires after a year (or even 5) should be demanding their money back so they can replace their defective tires.

My tractor's rear tires were a little cracked when I bought the machine - they were no more than 8 years old, assuming they were original (can turfs last 2500 hours?). I think the machine was stored outside for those 8 years, but that is no excuse. I put another 500+ hours on over the past 6 years, and they haven't gotten much worse. They still look better than the OPs tires. I kept the machine under cover for most of that time, and run ~25PSI in the rears. The fronts had and still have no cracks.

We have a JD 3520 that 17-18 months old and the tires have been going flat a lot lately. About 3 ago I noticed that the front tires were cracking around the rim. It's stored outside in the summer and inside in the winter. We called the dealer and they said the tires aren't covered under JD's warranty, but they came over and took some pictures and sent the pictures to the tire manufacturer (Galaxy Tires) and they are going to replace the tires for free.
So I would contact your dealer and see if they can do anything.

Well, I may be within shouting distance of Rider9403. Because of the great lakes, and the hemlock trees, I guarantee it's not because there's too much sunshine! ;)

Being 62 years old I've gone through the tire thing for decades. Good ones last and bad ones don't.

It's took me a while but on the last two tractors I bought, I replaced the tires with what I really wanted and to heck with the poor tires that were on on them. One came with the USA made Titan, which is maybe OK and the other was an entry level US made tire.
On both tractors, I replaced the new tires in a swap with the dealer for higher grade ones. One had rear 18.4-30 and front 12-24 and I swapped to Firestone radials. They are so wonderful it would take a whole thread just to explain it. Yes it cost $$ but the difference in performance is worth it to me. They are eight years old and look like new. I am happy just looking at them.

The other had 18.4-34 and 12.4-24 and I went with Firestone 23 degree, long-bar, long-bar bias for a few hundred extra. Fine tires but I later sold the tractor. In each case, I made the trade-up and trade-in of tires part of the original deal and the dealer had an incentive to be helpful. Yes it cost extra but so does the ticket to life.

Actually, three tractors because a couple years back I bought a JD790 TLB with 90 hours that had been abused. The tires were torn from spinning on sharp rocks. For the back, the dealer had some leftover 12 ply! Firestone bias R4's that I got for a couple hundred trade in and the front I had to go with new Titans. It's OK on that tractor for my use.
Tires on trade in on a new deal are the best it is ever going to get and, if one can afford it, life it too short to own the wrong tires.

The dealer took pictures and is working with Case IH and Titan. The tires have a six year warranty. It looking like it's goping to be taken care of. I'm just waiting to hear out come.

WOW that's a change. Last time I talked to Titan their warranty on new tires was One Year.
