Jol, have carlisle tires on my 14 foot trailer. Have about 1,000 miles on them. Interstate and construction site miles and have not had 1 flat. Not sure about PT use but, I think its something to look into

I would check Rustybore's Tire Store on eBay. I've bought tires from them before and would highly recommend them. I'm pretty sure they have the rims and the tires you're looking for.

The tires on my PT are Titans.

My cost for a full set of shoes
4 each super lug 4 ply
Plus 4 rims to fit the 422/425
Total charged to the credit card including shipping = $428.44

Some other things you might consider, the shortest valve stem you can find, and about a quart of slime in each tire. Bar lugs pointing forward and stem to the outside. good luck

I have purchased tires and rims from Ebay. I also had a wheel and rim place make me up a set for rims to fit my 1445. I think the Ditch Witch uses the same tires and rims.
They are fairly easy to take off and mount new tires, although some of those tires you have to get a tire shop to mount them due to the tire not spreading out enough to seat the edges. The compression belts don't seem to work. If they are full of slim, they are really messy.

I would recommend 6 ply tires.

To everyone - thanks for the information.
JJ - Can I mix the 6 ply with the standard tires. I think 6 ply is a good choice, but I just want a spare. There seems to be a lot of lug left on my tires and I am at around 500 hours on the PT.

I don't see why not. The six ply will allow more weight. It jumps quite a bit over 2 ply.The only way to be sure that all tires have the same rolling distance, is to raise the tire off the ground and use a fiberglass tape around the center, and add or let out air as necessary to give the same measurement.

Take a look at the tires in this pic. I have no problem doing this.

Your 422 must have better tires than my 425

Our decomposed granite 'soil' is more abrasive.

After 310 or so hours, the front bar tires have about 1/8" tread, rears 3/16" with a combination of loader work and mini-hoe work.

Bob,

I looked quite a bit for 6-ply Titan Power Trac tires since my PT has 4 ply ones. I couldn't find any. Everyone else I talked to said they'd been discontinued and they could only get 2 and 4 ply rated ones. There's also some confusion since I think Carlisle has now bought Titan or something...

Trying to find 23x10.50x12 6-ply tires of any brand is a challenge. I found one source for Ditch Witch (i.e. trencher) tires at about $150 each. Cedar Rapids Tire has 6-ply Carlisle Super Lugs, but they only have about 60-75% as many lugs as the Power Trac tires. There's also a Chinese 6-ply out there -- but it's metric-sized and I was told by the dealer that it's actually closer in size to a 23x9.50x12.

If you can find Titan Power Trac tires in 6 ply please let us know! Also note that a 4-ply is really a "4-ply rated" tire and may not have four plies (likely only 2 or 3).

My bar tires have less than 50 hrs. on them but I have noticed very little ware on any tires with over 400 hrs on my PT
