Here is a question that I can't seem to get answered anywhere I have asked it. Maybe some of you can shed some light.

Have any of you put turf tires on a 1500D? If so, what size and where are they available?

Or, should I change wheels.....can I change wheels? I have the 185D operators manual and it shows turf tires as an option for the 185D but with wider wheels, Will the 185D wheels fit my 1500D?

Or, am I barking up the wrong tree and should I consider a different tire. The rice tires are bad on my lawn. My objective is to have the ability to cut my three acres of grass without digging ruts in it while still having the ability to maintain/remove snow from my very long gravel drive.

I would appreciate the benefit of everyone's experiences in this so I get the right type of tire the first time.

What size are your rice tires?.....I've supplied a link below for tire calculation. My F16D has 8.3x20 rice tires on the back. I believe a 16" six lug chevy rim will fit on the back of the Yanmars. My 8.3x20 rice tires are 33.7" tall and a 265/85-16" all terrain truck tire is 33.7" tall and should make a lot better turf tire then the rice tires....Then just keep the rice tires and rims for winter. I believe I'll be doing this soon myself. Not sure what I'll do with the fronts yet but my fronts are ag tires which aren't as bad as the rice tires.

Let me correct myself.....The 8.3x20 rice tire is 34.7 tall which is equivalent to a 315/75-16

The size is tough to read but here goes:

The rear is 8.3 / 8 - 22 and it is 37" tall

The front has numbers in two different places:

AGR12 and 2.2 ......it is 22 inches tall

The 315/75-16 is the biggest 16" light truck tire I know of /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif...You'll have to look at other options. /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif

I took a quick look and didn't find anything for 22" rims. You may have to change wheels. Even if you can find the right size, turf tires are quite pricey. Most people do as has been suggested - get a second set of wheels and put AT type tires on them. Yours may be a challenge due to the large size of the tires.

the simple way is tofind turfs the same size as your rims.I dont know if they are available. but the rolling circumference is already calulated to work if you use same size tire.. if you have to go up or down a size then you need to do the same with front if you have 4WD.. if you have 2WD them you only need to worry how you want tractor to set. level or not. I changed my 1802d to turfs in the rear and kept the ag's on the front.. I will tell you turfs spin alot easier that ags.. any soft wet spots now have spin marks on them . if it ever stops raining this year they will be great but till then 4wd is locked in

Thanks for the info guys.

I was hoping, with all the Yanmar owners that frequent here, that someone had already gone through the process so I wouldn't have to reinvent the wheel.

Or am I just worrying about nothing? Are there a lot of guys that mow with the rice tires on and I shouldn't be concerned about damage to the lawn.

I think that just about everybody who gets a new tractor with ags or rice tires thinks about turfs. It usually turns out to be a pain and many people forget about it and make due with the existing tires. If you have a nearby firestone/bridgestone ag tire dealer they can be a lot of help. Firestone makes a diamond tread turf tire in some of the same sizes as the rice tires. As you know the problem is to keep the front to back rolling circumference ratio pretty much the same to avoid damaging the drive train when in 4WD. The next step if you can't find firestones to fit is to have new wheels fabricated to mount stock turfs. A good tire dealer can help you get tires that have the same ratio as your rice tires. You might want to keep asking. You are probably right that someone has already solved this problem.
