Congrats on the snow = $$$

Thanks for the pressure.... it is always good to have a recomended starting point even if I play with it from there.

Got a construction project starting next month so will be looking seriously at a TC perhaps by May or June. Probably get the R4s with the machine but plan on the truck tires for winter snow plowing season. I imagine 500 + lbs of ballast in the rear would not hurt matters either.

Rip,
If you are doing snow removal, and your terrain is like mine with lots of slopes, I might suggest a little more weight. I'm running between 700 and 800 lbs for counter weights.

Yeah.... it will have some slope to it, so I'll heed your sugestion of 800 lbs or so to start with.

Due to mostly north facing drive I may have to spread sand or salt/sand frequently which could account for most of that.

i have 800 lbs of steel plate in the back and 150 litres of diesel in a transfer tank.

Did you guys use the original tc rims or get new ones to go with the snow tires?
thanks dylan

I am also interested in switching over the tires. When you say standard rimes, did you mean toolcat rims?

The bobcat rims worked out just fine. i installed Lt 235-75 R15 mud and snow tires. Amazing difference. Rides like a caddy now. Should make a big difference in the snow.

I took a quick measurement yesterday (I'm thinking about storing the R-4's for the winter) and it appears the bolt pattern is the typical "6 on 5.5". If that's the case then it would appear to be cheap and easy to have a second set of tires/wheels as this bolt pattern is typical for half-ton pickups. The rub (no pun intended) might come if the offset on pickup wheels is different than that of the TC. I've not checked into this yet.

235/75-15's are a popular size (but watch the load rating) and I found quite a few on Craigslist. Additionally, due to the popularity I assume, there's a great selection of different types of tire chains.
