TN65 self destruct button?

Fred what's up with that shaggy rug in your picture? Looks like it might make for a cooomfy ride to me ??? You don't sleep nights on that TN do you? My wife has accused me of going to my spousal avoidance unit (pole barn) on more than one occasion just to be with my blue buddy (TC-40D) /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Guess we'll never know now what the TN mystery button is for now, what do you think?

I'm new to this board, but have enjoyed it for a while. Let me try to solve the mystery. My TL has the same button. I had a grapple installed. To operate the grapple jaws, you have to have the functional equivalent of a third circuit on the loader. To accomplish this the dealer installed a diverter. This device mounts on the forward cross member on the loader and acts to divert the flow of hydraulic oil when you want to operate the grapple jaws. The circuit that is being interrupted controls bucket roll. The way you control the diverter is by pushing the BUTTON on the joystick. The TL joysticks I've seen are black in color and that is probably a dead button. When a diveter is installed, the button is replaced with an operational button (mine is red, to continue the self destruct theme). When you push the button in with your thumb and move the joystick side to side, your grapple jaws open and close. As soon as you remove your thumb from the button, your roll function operates. It is very easy to use and really makes the grapple productive. The electricity is provided by an auxilary circuit that plugs in just behind and outboard of the seat.

As Paul Harvey might say, "And now we know the rest of the story." /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Thanks for clearing that little mystery up for us and welcome to the TBN boards. Don't be hesitant to share your knowledge as that is what this forum is all about.

Welcome to the board. I hadn't had a chance to take a look at my TN since this thread started but I seemed to remember something that resembled a button on my loader control. Since I had obviously pushed it and nothing had happened, i suspect I just forgot about it. I think what you say makes a lot of sense and is probably it's use. You mention the power coming from right near the seat and there is a small round unused power outlet in that vicinity on the TN's so that part also adds up.

Thanks for the input. I need to get to my tractor again soon so that I can look in detail now that I have a clue.

cdrklir,
welcome to the worlds best internet site. thanks for the info, though i thought the self destruct feature would've been much more unique. NH makes so many variations on what seems to be a world tractor that there instructions are a bit vague, but then life is more fun when it doesn't come with a complete manual. my other tractor was 35 years old and they've come along way in that time...i'm still in the discovery process with only 10 hours on this one.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone. I'm off in the morning to do the 50 hour on the TL. I'll try to remember to get a picture of the diverter. Looks like it is easy to attach stuff to these messages. I'm amazed how many non-nylock nuts have fallen off this thing -- all loader related that I am replacing with nylock nuts. Otherwise, a great machine that has performed without any glitches. Have a great weekend all.

Yes the "rug" is pretty ugly. Its a cheapo seat cover designed for a truck/car seat.
Parts of my place get pretty muddy, so this is $6 worth of seat insurance to keep it looking new for the next 20-30 years.
