A little update on the tig 300 300,
trying to upload a picture-? mmm no luck something up with picture uploading?
so picked up some charcoal metallic paint and knocked out some of the dents from when it fell out of a truck in the past.
just fizz can paint but looking better. [/ATTACH]
The rf chokes arrived and once installed the machine is now producing a good amount of high frequency and high voltage at the torch. Very happy about that- things are looking up.
With the weight of the 300 300 making it difficult to roll it to the work and really needing some longer leads for the Lotos inverter, i ordered up some #2 welding cable and also a few male/female DINSE quick connects.
Still need to get the power supply wiring finished up.
After reading about what power pigs these welders are- I load tested the output to 200 amps ac current on a 40 amp breaker... part of this could be having the power factor correction capacitors installed.
anyway Should have the 70 amp service finished up soon.
Really pleased to start learning to tig aluminum, and hopefully make decent looking welds someday - Not there yet.
As a final note, For someone looking to get into welding Aluminum with TIG and also have ad/dc stick welding on a small budget. These old heavy / large transformer based welders can be a real bargain, Although in most cases you have to bring the work to the welder.
But for a total investment of under $200 this one has been a great deal and is a great companion for the chinese welder/plasma cutter and have even found a permanent place for the Tig 300 300 in my garage.
