To Idle or not to Idle, that is the ?

I have a remote start for the first time, and I am really enjoying it. This is my first winter with it, and it has proved to be very convenient during this winter's cold mornings. It is on my 2016 F150, and it has a nice feature whereby it automatically shuts off after 15 minutes. So, no problem if you get distracted and forget about it, and by the way the truck stays locked. (in fact, the truck won't start unless you push the lock button first.)

No bodies no kill....

I have an ongoing thing with moles....
Best way to get rid of them hands down. Cost under $10 and worked unlike all the traps and poisons.

The dogs dug up the bodies a few days later as they started to stink!

I think with a diesel fuel dilution can be a problem since the engine is so cold the fuel isn't burning as well and some raw fuel is left behind. In theory of course.

We cut the thermostats off the end of the block heater cords , install a new HD plug and pre-warm the vehicles. Go out , start the engine and the defroster is blowing warm air before we are done scraping the ice and snow off. Can't figure out how people are so excited about mileage yet they will idle an engine and obtain zero miles per gallon. A couple hours of electricity is cheaper than 10-20 minutes of idling. Less cold cylinder wall wear too.
Less wear and tear on everything with the warm start.
Cylinder wall washdown on a port injected or DI gasser is a non issue although any cold cylinder wall does wear faster.
Buddy is either quoting a decades old advice article or is thinking of a diesel.

If it's really cold out ( below 10 degrees F) you can step on it all you want with those 7.3's, but it won't go anywhere fast till it warms up a little. My understanding is fuel dilution is mostly a problem with the newer 2008+ engines, so older engines really don't have this problem. When you run bio-diesel mix fuels in newer engines you really have to look out for fuel dilution. biodiesel will not evaporate from the oil like diesel can one warmed up.

Those 7.3's don't go anywhere fast anyways. :) but I love them.

At least my 350 has 4.10 gears, the 450 has 4.88 gears. It hates driving on the interstate. ;)

I can assure you traps work very effectively.... I've killed several hundred on our 1 acre after they ruined our above ground swimming pool. Killed 29 the first year, then stopped counting at 50 each year after for about 5 more years... then they just stopped coming around. I get maybe 5 a year since then. It was like some kind of horror movie.

Yep gotta love remote starters!

In Quebec they passed a law that forbids idling more than 15 mins. (ecology)
Naturally it does not apply to gov't vehicles so you see LEO's idling for hours on end.
The defense is that they need to charge their batteries to maintain all their electronics, now in old days with vacuum tubed radios I'd accept that debate but solid state especially on standby draws practically nothing.

It is the old 'do as I say, not as I do'.

Nothing to see 2 LEO cruisers parked side by side with opened windows idling away for an hour or so while they gossip, or in parking for the duration of their lunch time.

Who is LEO? "It is the old 'do as I say, not as I do" <<<To me that's the same as global warming protesters flying, driving around the country protesting global warming while their house is still hooked up to the power grid............

LEO= Law Enforcement Officer.

Saw a news story this morning that clean up has begun at the protest site of the Dakota pipeline. Multiple garbage bins have been brought in to clean up the mess left by the protestors. The garbage has to be cleaned up before it contaminates ground water systems.
