I But just remembering how it was with no live PTO, no power steering- the new tractors really "numb" up the farming experience. And sometimes that's good!

You mean there are tractors with power steering? Live PTO ? Seriously ?

My Ford Jubilee is my main farm tractor, so I get plenty of time to 'reminisce.' I use it to mow 20-30ac of hay with a 7' sicklebar. Also bale with it and get along good, despite the fact that EVERYONE says you can't run a square baler without live PTO.

I plan to run it until I can no longer buy parts for it, then maybe I'll get something more modern.

I haven't seen a sickle bar mower in a long time, that's all we used 20 years ago. When I bought my tractor there was a brand new one sitting on the lot. I asked the dealer if that was reconditioned or new, he said new (but I made the guy pay for it before I ordered it because I haven't sold one in 20 years. I always thought they did a pretty good job.

I always thought they did a pretty good job.

They do, but most people these days don't know how to adjust/maintain/opperate them, which is why people think they are junk.

I can lay down hay almost as quick with my Jubilee and 7' NH 451 sicklebar as I can with my fathers 2550 Deere and 7'8" NH 616 disc mower. And I can turn a square corner with mine, something I've found virtually impossible to do with a 3pt mounted disc mower. ;)

Any of you folks wanna reminisce I've got a '72 Mitsubishi R1500 that'll leave some good old bruises on ya after ya run the brush hog around a while. Just keep your rpms at around 2k and don't hit nothing cause she likes to climb trees once she gets warmed up. But my that metal seat sure is as comfy as she looks. Which ain't much at all. :)7

This thread is proof of everything that's wrong about the very existence of Starbucks.

Hmmm.... sounds like your trip back in time is similar to my regular day on my 2008 UTB made Montana 5264 (Romanian, same as the old Universal). 2008 yes, but un changed technology from the 60's.
