The Toyota hybrid nimh battery is 245 volts DC but that is a different animal altogether.

I also remember no defrosters, no heated seats. When someone tells me they dont make them like they used to, I always say I'm very glad of that :)

Using the same reasoning, I always say that a poor memory is what made the good old days so good.

I can see it for parking tickets and other officers who are doing constant low speed stop and go. Not so much for the highway patrol.

Might be good for Miami cops too...if you recall that fiasco with the Miami cop doing 120MPH and getting busted by the Florida Highway Patrol...

Do you think it could be as bad as the 1975 AMC Matador like Dallas had that year? I think the one on one Adam-12 was a 1972 model.

Still better than a Pacer... didn't they offer the 360 V8 that year? For a while I drove a '73 Matador wagon with the 304 V8 as the parts chaser for our unit, I really, really liked that wagon a lot.

Still have the slogan American Motors used back then rattling around in my head:

"There's MORE to an AMC...."

My old Ford 850 6 volt tractor keeps me grounded in a positive way. ;) It helps me appreciate the new vehicles every time I need to start that old engine when it's well below freezing. It still starts fine, but boy you had better think things through and double check everything before cranking it cause you only get one chance! I can't imagine walking out to my truck and feeling that way every morning in the winter.

I never drove one of the Matadors myself, but I heard nothing but complaints about them. I don't think we had an officer who didn't hate them. And I don't know, but I heard that they were supposed to have the 360 engines, but came with the 304s. In the Fall of '75, my unmarked home storage car was a Plymouth Satellite with a 400 engine, actually my favorite of all the cars I drove, and one night I had gone downtown to visit my night crew and started home about 2 a.m. out Stemmons Frwy and came up behind a 1960 Cadillac that was taking 3 lanes; apparently drunk driver. Since I was wearing slacks and a sport shirt that night, I called on the radio for a marked unit to stop him. There was one of the Matadors less than half a mile behind me and the drunk and I weren't doing 70 mph, but the Matador couldn't overtake us. I had to use the red lights in my grill and got the drunk stopped so the uniformed officers could catch up to us. So I was just as happy that I never drove one.;)
