This is tonight's welding project. What do you figure, should I clean the grease out of the king pin or just burn away?

I'm always careful with anything that can build up pressure and release hot grease suddenly.

I'd probably disassemble and weld just for safety reasons - been sprayed with hot grease, brake fluid, and oil a few times and I'm a little gun shy now :)

Take the zerk out, cover the hole. After welding, pump in lots of grease to flush out the cooked grease.

Yes remove pressure build up potential, clean your surroundings and as CNC said... flush the old grease.

Took it all apart. Luckily it was bushings inside which made it quick and easy to clean out. With the help from a buddies company service truck we Welded the knee back together then threw spindle and tire back on. Now it's sitting as pretty as it can again!
