Too Much Tractor?

80 engine hp, 65 hp on the PTO on a 10 acre lot with a 1/4 mile driveway, around 12,000#s as she sits and its not to big. And she sits next a 55 hp IH 574 which is running as light as possible she's only about 4500# for when the ground is soft. They are both cat 2 on the 3 point hitches.
As far as knocking down the corner markers, that's why we have steering brakes, mash and pivot. :dance1:

I would say that's just about right for thirty square feet of lawn. In my mind, though, I remembered it being a V8!

Is there such a thing? I did zero in on an MX5800. See previous post with pics of the land... its 24 acres of steep hills completely wooded with about 2 to 3000 foot of dirt road to maintain. I'll have a lot of trees/brush to deal with as will the occasional stump. Lots of large flat rocks I'll use for landscaping to move around.
So... I've not taken delivery but its ordered. In this time and reading several posts I got to wondering did I get too much tractor? Plenty on here saying how much they love their BX, L3301, L2501, etc... and I'm over here like dang... I coulda got 2 2501's for what I'm paying for this MX.
Am I going crazy?

I agree, the size of the tractor is just fine. Sure you might not need the extra 10 HP over the MX4800 right now, but you might in the future. Stick to your guns!

Yeah... I think this is Exactly what I was looking for. This isn't a purchase like a car... this thing will outlive me most likely.

Hey - I've got 64 engine hp on 80 acres. But - I WILL TELL YOU THE SECRET ABOUT TOO MUCH TRACTOR. It is seldom spoken and then only in the shadows or the dark corners of forgotten buildings.

You may have too much tractor when - turning the tractor in a 360 degree circle will result in the tractor knocking down all four property line fences. It MAY be time to consider downsizing - then and only then.

Gonna pass this pearl of wisdom to the wife and see what she says:thumbsup:

I have 36 Acres and I also purchased an MX5800 0% down
I ordered the MX4800 and after I ordered I changed up to the MX5800

My property is part Clay and part Shale Rock

several weeks ago I took my tractor up to work on my property (I do not live there full time)
I started digging into the rock with my Backhoe Attachment. Hard diggin for sure.

Went to the Clay and was very happy that I got the extra HP even thou I have never operated any other Tractor before.

I have a friend that operates a company up there with a very large Deere Backhoe and another Skip Loader.
He stopped by to see what I was doing.

He asked me about how I dug the rock and I told him with the Backhoe.

He told me from experience that the problem with small tractors was that they did not have enough weight in them to do heavy work.

He also told me that he was impressed with what the MX5800 did in the rock and added that I may want to add more weight to it in the future with Beat juice and wheel weights . He also told me to weld on an attachment to my Backhoe bucket that would accept a single ripper to help with breaking up the rock before scooping it out of the hole.

I for one am very very happy I went with the MX5800 Lots of potential with attachments as well as a strong tractor.

Have fun with yours and good luck. I went over the side of building a bridge on my property and was puckered up good.
I did not roll it but it was close. My friend came over and helped me pull it back out of the hole and told me I did good by not trying to get it out by my self. He said it would have rolled. That he had rolled several times in his 40 years of operating.

So what ever ya do try an keep the top side up and know your limitations.

Good luck to you Sir.

My neighbor has 2 acres - a wheel horse, a craftsman and a new husqvarna all garden tractor/mower type devices. And a farmall M with a loader...doesn't use it much, but does use it.

At the house I too have 2 acres, the farm is 25. I had a 70's L175 and now have a new Kioti CK3510HST.

What is 'too big' or 'too small'? IN the barn the kioti is just about too big - think 300lb man in a small bathroom. gotta go easy or you bump into things. Out in the 15 acre pasture brush hogging for 8 or 9 hours...wish it was bigger.

Brought it to the house for a few days..teh kubota fit nicely, the kioti is a bit large. A smaller B or bx perhaps would be good.

With the kioti I can do what I need to do - move my 7000lb camper, move dirt, brush hog, and soon clear snow. other than the time it takes to brush hog (15 hours...or so) it's fine. Would be a bit much for mowing grass unless you have a football field or such, like the farm neighbor who uses some ancient tractor (think late 30s..it has rubber tires but styling says it's very old) with a 7 or 8 foot finish mower on the back, a PTO driven pull behind. they also have something else very old (no paint on it either) with a belly mower..farmall c or maybe a cub lowboy or similar for around their house.

I have 33 acres and got an MX5800. I am glad I did. It has been great for what I need. Part of my thought process was that most implements that I will ever use, this tractor would handle it. If I needed to do something that this tractor would not handle, I probably should hire someone else to do it. Congrats on your new tractor!
