Oh yeah guys what about the extended warranty? My sales guy said it isn't worth it?? It would be to me if something broke after the warranty was up..... I'm gonna guess that one repair would be more than the $400 extended warranty... (I think that price is correct)

Tom,

The mower deck gauge wheels are NOT meant to set your mowing height. The deck mounting linkage has adjustment for that. Those gauge wheels are theoretically not meant to be necessary. They are only to keep the deck off of uneven ground.

Once you get your owners manuals a lot of your questions will be answered in them. Be sure to read all of them from cover to cover.

As for extended warranties, they are a suckers bet in general. If you do your research and buy good products, you shouldn't need extended warranties. You are investing in a John Deere so that you won't need an extended warranty. However, if it helps you sleep better at night to have it, then JD will gladly tuck you in.

Gobblin Tom said:
How do you set the deck height on mower? Does it just ride on the little wheels?

With mechanical lift, you use the 3PH position control to set the deck height. With independent lift, you use the knob that sits on the left fender to set the limit of downward travel for the lift mechanism, thereby setting the height of the deck. You also have to set the wheels using a decal on the deck that tells you what hole to put the pin in, based on the deck height.

The wheels when properly adjusted should be no more than a 1/2" off the ground on a flat surface. They don't touch the ground, the deck is actually supposed to "float".

Well talked to the dealer while I was still in Nebraska yesterday, he said the Imatch and deck were on it's way and the loader will be shipped on Friday so maybe next week it will be here....

I am sure this will be a learning experience for me with the mower deck. I think I will be scraping some humps, and rises off my property so I don't scalp, or try not to... how low can you cut with one of these? I generally cut my grass pretty Short. 1.5" - 2" just wandering.....

Hey Tom,
Glad to see you made it back safe and sound.:)

I'm not sure of the height,I never really measured, but with the rockshaft lever right around seven,it's a darn close shave. I'm betting that is about a 1.5"-2" cut for sure.
Some of my property is pretty uneven, and I can't get away from scalping in some places, but I'm getting pretty good at knowing just when to do a quick "raise-lower" with the rockshaft when I come to those spots.

Hey thanks it was an awesome trip!!! Talked to Robert at Vernon Dell today he said the only thing in is the Imatch.... He said the mower might be there but wasn't sure. I've been waiting to cut some of my grass to try the new mower, but won't be able to wait to much longer.....

Well I went to the local GetGo gas station last night and got 6, 5 gallons of diesel fuel for the new tractor that I haven't got yet..... I don't know how long that will last me but I'm hoping a little while.....

Tom,that should last quite awhile.:)
So far, under normal load conditions,I've been averaging around .4-.5 gallons per hour. Yesterday,it was more like .8/hr,because I was really working it hard cutting the old pasture for the first time this year. It was overdue by two weeks because of all the wet weather. So where it grows really thick,it was slow going.
All in all after 5 hours at 2,500 rpm, only using 4 gallons, I am pretty satisfied, and from what I've read, fuel efficiency should get better the more the engine gets broken in. I don't know if that is always true, but it would sure be nice if it were.
