My Chain Come-Along:
Looks like a load binder without hooks.

The new ones come in 3 chain sizes, 1/4, 3/8 and 7/16.

I am guessing that most of the younger generation does not know what a brace for drilling holes is, so here is a picture:

My problem with the old braces has been finding the bits with four sided shanks that were traditional in my youth. Recently, someone said they'd work with the still available, round shank bits that have flat sides, I think the number of flat sides is six but haven't tried them.

I have ben known to cut that nasty four sided shank off an old auger bit, in a pinch, so I could stick it in a drill.

Nice thing is a newer take on both the traditional brace as well as a yankee push drill can be found on Garret Wade. The brace actually ends in a 1/2 socket drive and can be purchased with a couple of different drill chucks for holding various drill bits. One of the yankee push drills they sell also is a more modern take that uses the standard 1/4" hex bits.

...as someone who is also technically either a millennial or Gen X (depending on the year range used) it's nice to see some of the older tool designs being maintained or updated to use newer concepts/standards (at least when they are made as decent quality tools).

I will never forget that scene in the Blues Brothers when he whips out his old fashioned spiral push type screwdriver to open the elevator panel.

Hung many a gate using a brace and bit to drill holes in posts for the hinge pins. When you added your own sweat equity you took better care of your tools and kept them sharp.

Here is a tool I'm in love with, I got it a few months ago, don't use it that much but when I do it sure makes handling plywood so much easier for an older guy that's had both his shoulders worked on!

I'm jealous! I would love to have one of those. I almost got one in an auction, but lost out after it went above my limit.

I've wanted one of these for years, could never find one I could afford.. saw this on craigslist at $550 and jumped all over it! First one I have seen under a grand!!

One day I might get around to fitting a modern drill chuck to one of those nasty four sided shanks so I can have it both eays.
