When looking at a used Toolcat, how do you tell if it is the 46 hp or the 56 hp motor. Are the engine tags accessible? If the machine is highflow is that an indication of the 56hp?

Thanks!

The 56 H.P. will have a turbo charger.

Hey Dakota, if the 5600 has "High Flow" it has a 56hp engine. Another way to tell is to lift the bed and you won't be able to miss the turbo if it has one. Unlike most diesels that have the turbo mounted to the side of the engine, this turbo sits right on top of the engine.

Hey Big Daddy,
I see you are in Helotes. I am in Pipe Creek. I'm thinking of getting a toolcat to help with ranch chores and occasional commercial work with my company. What do you do mostly? Do you run any other machines?

Well Hey Neighbor, you couldn't make a better choice than the Toolcat. I sold my Mahindra 2615HST 4X4 tractor and haven't looked back...literally! Constantly looking back while brush cutting was hard on my neck and back. Doing the work out front is so much easier. I do about everything with my Toolcat sometimes riding 4 miles down Hwy 16 to pick up (2) 2,220lb pallets of sod. Yep I did say (2) pallets! The first time I came for sod everyone came out and laughed at me. Now they still come out, only now it's admire this machine. I don't know about the new "D" series with it's softer suspension and frame in the middle. (our dealer hasn't got one yet) As for the "C" Series, you can throught Bobcat's capacities clean out the window. You could lift the rear with the lift arm (3,000lbs) and the bed will hold (3,000lbs +) Tomorrow, weather permitting I'll be picking up and moving bolders that weigh 2,500-3,000lbs with no balast in the bed. I can creep down a 45 degree slope into a ditch with a ton of landscape block in the back while holding a 700lb Bobcat mower out front. I've had it since Nov. 2005 and I still get excited when it's time to go to work. I've been reading these posts for years and would imagine that I push my Toolcat harder than anyone that I've read about. (Changing engine oil every 100hrs and all fluids every 250hrs) And besides the radio flying out and wacking me on the head I've had no major problems. If you want to check mine out before you buy your more than welcome to.

Big Daddy, Thanks for the offer but I picked up a machine today to try out and I am sold. It's B, I think, with high flow, turbo, and a PTO. I tried it out with my brushcat and it worked great. I'm getting a combo bucket, toolcat grapple, and a bucket. I already have 2 s300k's and lots of attachments so it will have more tools to use. I'm going to use it on my own place for for lighter things on ranches that I clear.

What services do you do? I built a lot of driveways over the last 10 years as well as my land and tree clearing business but I moving more and more away from dirt work and almost exclusively on the tree clearing and recycling segment. I think the toolcat will help with some of the landscaping ideas I have but foremost it will compliment the tree work.

Is your brushcat low flow? I have high flow available but I'm wondering if it is preferable for a mower attachment. Have you had any trouble with your mower?

I am on my second brushcat in approximately 8 years. I use it in really rough conditions. Only problems are occasional seal leaks from gearbox and hydro motor getting loose or cracking it's mounts.
It is rated up to 28 gpm but I usually only run low flow at 22. I ran it for a few hours with the TC at 18 and it did great in thick coastal and weed field. This older bruschcat only weighs 1350 lbs.
I have never liked the brushcats linkage. It's complicated, heavy, and not very strong for all the moving parts. I wonder how the new linkage works? It looks stronger..
